It looks to me as though someone has found the "thing" and stuck it into a base of "something", and made it into an ornament to place on the mantlepiece....
A common practice with various bits of armaments left over from the wars...

We used to have ornaments like those with grenades, mortars, shells, etc...from WW II... ...!

If I was to get my trophies out in a public place there is a pretty good chance that I would get arrested by an Officer of the Law for performing a "lewd act"... ...!

Though I am perplexed by the male thread around the top.

Maybe it was for some sort of protection cap that could be screwed on and off... Could come in handy for transportation of the things, or dropping a box with a dozen of these in it would be slightly uncomfortable.

I'm no expert on these matters, but I think this looks very interesting and I also want to know what it is. I tried searching for grenades/bombs/mortars/projectiles and stuff, but I didn't get any good sites with pictures.

Easy peasy this one chaps!
Okay it IS a two inch mortar bomb. The brass thing attatched to the base is the head of a smoke canister that was attatched.
I'd guess it was used in training by Commandos practicing beach landings

That looks very much like the Findon history site. Strangely enough it's one of the places I looked. Cissbury Ring is a couple of miles from where I'm sitting.
