I worry more about those politicians who are not wet, sick, cold, or hungry and still rob the public blind.  Or those CEOs who rape their company, drive it into bankruptcy (causing thousands to loose their jobs), the walk away with millions.

I rather think that examples like these are brought up to distract us from the large-scale crooks..I mean, c'mon!  This guy is not much compared to the above examples! ::)

I do believe that's about as close as you can get to becoming a deadbeat dad..

He is there, despite all...and when was the last tim you tried parenting that many kids?!  When would he have time to work?!  And what would childcare cost.  Dunno how it is there, but here in the states, the cost of childcare often defeats the purpose for employment (and care is sub-par for most of us).

I really think people like this should have there children taken away and given into the system. He is unemployed, a bad morale example, and a waste of money. What that man needs is not more money, needs a swift kick in the pants, and to be cut off.

I think the point Doug is that there isn't just a few of them. This is an extreme case. I reckon there are hundreds of thousands of men just like him with 2-4 children going the same way and doing exactly the same thing.

I know a family of 20 children VERY WELL - infact any Brit may have already heard of them. The Campbells from Struan in Skye. Though I can't find any info on the net.
Anyway he has had all these from one wife and I can tell you they are all pretty well off people, nearly all have degrees or doing them and most are in high paid jobs and they are the nicest people I have met.

Lots of children doesn't mean poverty, irresponsibility, or anything - it is only that if you can't afford to bring them up properly.

I'm not saying I agree with it or the fact that I'm helping to support these layabouts from my hard-earned pension. What I am saying is that this is a typical media hate campaign & knowing the Sun I have to wonder how much truth there actually is in it. Don't be taken in by everything you read in the papers or see on the TV news.

There are many stories I can be sceptical about. That isn't one of them - there are thousands of such cases in Britain and I'm not bothered if they have picked a real case and reported right or not.
Personally, I think it is likely to be 100% true.

You are always warning me Doug - I try not to be - but the reason why this gets me is that I know a family just identical to this guy in many respects. Infact the one I know is worse. Let me say. ;) The council knocked two semidetatched houses into one - worth a fortune - :o and completely kitted it out with new windows, flooring, kitchen barthroom etc etc and all they do is complain. He hasn't worked for more than a decade and what really angers me is that they accuse the people they know of being unhelpful and unfriendly and always hint at how they so desperately need money (hint hint). We have done all sorts of things for them and so have other of our friends and they sometimes don't even say thank-you. Sometimes they have the gut to complain! He continually moans about this thing and the next (as does his wife) and his children are rude and barely know how to behave. The children are all almost totally uneducated and can barely hold a conversation. The Dad is the sort of person that when he comes round to your house he points out how unsafe it is and how his car (now broken down and needs repairing) is much better and why our living room is just too small. I'm not joking. He makes me angry - when he has been given thousands and lives in a huge house almost in the middle of town and my Dad worked his heart out in a really hard job to get us the standard we have it just sucks to swallow.  :P

Rant over - sorry - as you can tell it really causes me grief! ;)

I am positively shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, about the reaction to this poor fellow's plight!  Where is the compassion, where are your FEELINGS, for the suffering that this man is going through?

The reactions I've read on this astound me!  How can they be so cruel and mean spirited?

Why have compasion for a dead beat, not to be rude, but I was taught a man has to work for things, I was rasied you never get hand outs, and I live that way. I barly scrape by, but I do it. I have no compasion for this man, and I never will.
