Good to know your okay Radopilot. :) Let's hope it stays that way!
Au contraire...they can hang around as long as they want.  They can last anywhere from seconds to hours.  I think the average is around 5-10 minutes though.

Its a scary thing to watch a tornado... ...things stay that way :P

Luckly you are ok.  Tornados a... ...fall was bad and already starting off on the wrong foot this year :-[

I was lucky that time... ...never guessed a storm was overhead :-/

I honestly didn't know tornadoes could last hours.  I thought in extreme cases they might last 20-30 minutes.  Go figure.  Then again, Houston is pretty far away from tornado alley.  I honestly don't remember the last time we've had a tornado here.  I remember a year or two ago we had a bad streak of tornadoes.  None of them lasted long, but since Houston's chock full of urban and suburbs, they did their fair share of damage.  Hail, earthquakes, sure they make "sense", but now here comes this spiraling tunnel of death from the sky!

Tornadoes, freaky stuff! :o

Yeah there's no prediting what a tornado does or how long they will last. The one that went by here last fall skipped up and down but the weather radar indicated it about an hour before it reached our area. There was also reports of debris falling from the sky 30 miles away. There's one whole grain silo that hasn't been found yet.

No matter how short or long it lasts, it will be the longest few minutes of your life!

Glad to know you're okay!

Nothing like watching a hurricane for a week or more as it comes close, gathers strength, veers off, then loops back......

My first thought when tornadoes are in the area, disconnect from the internet, LMAO!!

I would be outside watching for them with my camera, always was amazed by severe weather, don't care for the damage they do but possibly the most amazing demostration of power that can be seen.

And most worry about the funnel, but  the unseen microburst can do much more damage ;) So just becasue a storm is heading away from you by no means means your in the clear ;)

Tornadoes are the most fascinating storms produced by mother nature, unpredictible and as mentioned earlier can last from 1 second to hours on end and cover hundreds of miles, one storm can produce hundreds of funnels, and one funnel can spawn multiple funnels, they just amaze me..

I haven't seen a good storm since I moved to TN, the mountains push all the action to the north lol.

Good to hear that your safe and all is well, next time get some photos!

Come up my direction for awhile if you want to see some storms.  They can get pretty nasty sometimes.  But theres a few good areas if wanting to watch tornados, they are pretty regular out in fields.  Never cause any damage other then crops ;)  Unless it takes a turn like the one I mentioned :P  Thats when the fun stops ::)
