In astronomical terms it is quite close,like crossing the street!.
You know, most would assume that when someone says "life elsewhere in space" [or something similar to that effect] they would assume little, green [or grey] men with lots of technology. But, in real life, researchers are just looking for something that's at least "living". And when they say living, anything can come to mind. Whether it's a pile algei or fungus, a fish, or a real little green man.
