Well I really thought the police were slightly smarter than most people give them credit for, however it appears I was wrong.
Yesterday myself and my boss tackled a guy trying to steal 4 bottles of whiskey, this guy started to get really worried about the cops coming to get him like most would, but this one was more than usual. Anyway after 25 minutes of waiting the cops turn up and take him away. Only instead of doing the job right, handcuffing him and searching him they just put him in the back of their car and off they go. On the way it turns out the guy had a bag of meth and decided to swallow it, He's now in a coma at the local hospital taking up a valuable ICU bed.

Not very impressive on the police's part for not searching him, but hey he is only a thief.

A first day rookie would know to search anyone being arrested. What if he had a gun or a knife? last thing you need is a guy in the back of the car with a gun.

Maybe he had an officer next to him? Maybe he quickly gobbled the stufff while he wasn't looking.

Obviously it was gone quickly:) I dont know about an officer beside him, not standard procedure. Regardless several basic mistakes were made.

Aye the ambulance crew certainly thought so as it took them 15 minutes to stop laughing and go and get the tool kit from the ambulance to remove the offending lobster

It is an unforgiveable mistake not to search a suspect that you're taking into custody.

The police don't search if they feel they don't need to, they obviously thought you had got everything off him that he might have nicked.

It may sound a tad harsh, but I agree with eno on this one - just another loser off the streets, I can't abide scum who feel they have a right to just take whatever they want.

I think you & Foz have the wrong idea. From what I can make out a 'bag of meth' is not methylated spirit.
