By air, I'm about 250nm from the Seattle-Tacoma Int'l airport. By road, it's about a 400 mile drive to Seattle ;)

The local media seems to be getting excited to see a semi local NFL team, the Seahawks, get close to the super bowl.

Thats what the media here is doing as well.  The Seahawks are the closest NFL team.  But, I have never personally been a Seahawks fan.  Infact, as most of the football fans here know, I am a huge Carolina Panthers fan.  And...they are playing Seattle in Seattle next Sunday with the winner going to the Super Bowl.

So either Carolina or Seattle will be going to super bowl. Who is the other team in the super bowl going to be?

There are 2 confrences in the NFL, the "NFC" and the "AFC."

Actually while watching the Colts game today I heard them mention the Baltimore Colts and I was surprised because I never heard of them outside Indy.

And Richie you have too much time on your hands. ;)

They actually didn't move all that long go.  They moved between the 1983 and 1984 seasons.  I guess things got really bad in Baltimore and whatever they tried to do didn't make anything better.  Infact, they went 0-8-1 in 1982 (I think there was a strike that year so only 9 games were played).  With 0 wins, the got the #1 pick in the 1983 NFL draft.  They picked a franchise QB out of Stanford with that pick named John Elway, but he did what Eli Manning did (refused to play for the team that drafted him) and in the end they ended up trading Elway to Denver before ever taking a snap as a Colt.  The Colts did a little better in 1983 going 7-9 but apparently things had gotten really bad.  On night (seriously), they packed the team up in trucks and snuck out of town.  The video of the trucks leaving Baltimore at night is actually pretty famous in the sports world now.

And Richie you have too much time on your hands. ;)

I know.   ;D

No, Baltimore was without a team from 1984-1995.

But, the Cleveland Browns had simular problems in the mid 1990s as the Baltimore Colts had been having the in 1980s.

Like I said before. Too much time. :)

Thanks for the info, Richie. I really only started following the NFL two or three years ago so I don't know all too much about this stuff. :P

I'm off to bed.

I was really shocked he missed too. Which sucks because Denver Indy would have been almost the perfect matchup for the afc title, certainly poetic. Carolina Denver would be a great superbowl.

Interesting read, I find it hard to believe that the Seahawks who have had a number of close games as of late are favourates over Carolina who have been dominant of some very tough teams the past 4 weeks. I also wouldn't put denver as huge favourates over Pittsburgh, that running game of theirs is pretty good, and their run defense is very tough, especially now Denver are switching to pass first style of offense. The plus side being Peyton Manning picked that secondary to pieces at times, and with his ability to escape presure I think Jake will too. Carolina Denver superbowl would be one hell of a match-up.

Even worse, the Browns had a long history of dissappointment because they got the AFC Championship game several times always to lose one game short of the Super Bowl.  Only a couple years after they left, the Baltimore Ravens won a world title.
You can call him Mr Elway for that ;D Of course its always fun to rub "the drive" in the faces of the Browns fans. ;D
