I'm afraid I have to disagree. Think back to the Carling Cup last year. Q Finals, Man U v Arsenal. Both sides played their young players (i.e. a completely different team). Why? Because it was a chance for them to show what they're made of...

I think I've won the battle now!  ;D

you've won nothing. This is not a competition you want to risk losing a game in. The carling cup most big clubs really dont care about, the FA cup though. Fergie truely believed he would win with that team, and win comfortably. Like most of these other experts. You could see his frustration building the whole game.

I beg to differ, though. You see the thing is, I doubt that Sir Alex played the team he did because he was being arrogant, thinking that he could beat them with an unexperienced team. I think that he played the team he did because he was giving the youngsters a chance.

It's all so cynical now & no longer a sport. IMHO
From what I can see the much-vaunted Man U now has serious problems & Fergie is in deep trouble. He should have retired when he was at the top & the only way now is downhill. You might be able to tell that I never liked Man U or their arrogant manager. :P

It's losing. BTW. Loosing gives it a whole different meaning. :P ;)

This happened a few years ago in the league cup (I believe it was the Coca Cola Cup at that time). Leicester City vs Man U, Leicester being home at Filbert Street. I remember because I was there :) Anyway, Ferguson played his reserve side, consequently, Leicester won 2-0. Leicester went on to win the cup. I wonder how Ferguson felt about that...

I wonder how Ferguson felt about that...

I seem to recall that he pulled Man U out of the 1999/2000 FA Cup (even though they were the current holders) to take part in a tournament in Brazil. I think that demonstrates his feelings on the subject.

PS. They didn't make the final. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Championship_2000
