FS partnership?

I was marveling at the quality of googles "Earth" programe (Just type google earth on their website, free 15mb download) and was wondering.... what if someone came up with a way to integrate FS into google earth?,

That's not what he is suggesting. Flips & MyGoogle Earth (both here)  only give you a map view - what he (& many others) is suggesting is using google earth as your FS environment.  

I'm sure that using generated digital imagery such as GE as our FS environment will be a reality but we have some way to go with PC power & connectivity ...

I'm sure you could do it, but it would be a MASSIVE undertaking. You'd probably have to hack into Google's database to get all the textures.

Well so far I've tried to use what was suggested by Webb but can't seem to notice anything happening so will try again tonight.

I know that we are talking terrra gigs and I only have just over half (660gig) but as its stored on the net, I presume there would be enough to be able to "cache / temp memory" the country you are in.


Even have FS load a 50 - 100 mile radius of your plane and upload / dump as you move across the country so you only ever have a 100mile square terrain stored in memory at any one time.

pete and Rimshot are right.  There is no way you could possibly cache GE's database because the program itself limits the size of the cache.  The default disk cache is 400 Mb, which is pretty substantial, and I'm sure it has a max limit.  But the GE database must be several terrabytes.

I seem to be one one of the few that can successfully run MyFSGoogleEarth but I've had very few problems with it once I got it set up.  It's not designed for FS02 but it runs fine under FS02 and FSUIPC 2.94/WideServer with none of the problems that seem to be constantly associated with FSUIPC 3.x.  I'm running it on a separate networked computer so I can see FS on my primary and MyFSGE on the secondary but it's really just a simple home wireless network.  I would think it would it would be a bigger problem running it simultaneously with FS04 on a single box and trying to flip back and forth between 2 programs - that would have to take a major performance hit since both programs are major CPU/RAM hogs.

Thats where I was going wrong.  I thought that the google scenery would be super imposed into FS, didn't realise that you had to have both FS2004 and G Earth running as 2 seperate things.

Google scenery in Fs with only FS running, that would be somthing :-)

As soon as they can cram a Cray into a 7" x 15" x 15" box with a cooling fan and a simple power cord......... flight sim will take a major leap forward.
