Halloween Is Stupid

Postby Jakemaster » Mon Oct 31, 2005 8:06 pm

Every year, all of these hispanic people (i am not trying to be racist, just fact) drive over to my neighborhood in their POS cars and vans to go trick or treating.  Now, I know that some neighborhoods are not safe, but I mean, come on, you don't have to come mooch off of us.  We aren't rich.  We don't have the best candy.  Just because we live in two story houses in bellaire doesn't mean that we are giving out full candy.  IT is so annoying to have all these retarted kids come to our door from so far away.  I really would be okay if it was just people from the neighborhood.  In fact, even the teenagers in this neighborhood I wouldn't mind giving candy, but when these people drive over here, it is absurd.

I hate halloween.  Especially because all of the people, especially those in cars, really piss off my dog, so all night we here barking, children screaming, car doors slaming, and those three awful words.

TRICK OR TREAT

Now I bet if you went out and joined in the festivities you'd of had a hell of a time.  I went out for the first time in years tonight, and I had a blast!  I remember why I did it when I was younger.  :)

Where I live, we have all kinds of people who are not from the central TC neighborhood come Trick or Treating.  This is because most of the TC area is rual, with lots of wide-areas without sidewalks...not a great environment for trick-or-treating.  When we run out of candy, you just shut off the porch light, and don't answer the door (it's over by 8:00 P.M. anyways).

Halloween is a great time.  My daughter loves dressing up, walking around a bit, but she likes giving the candy out more.  I like the creativity that some kids show in their costumes.  Some parents even dress up and share with their kids (I wish I could be that spontaneous...many who see my picture on the Anavon site tell me I need to smile more...how I envy those parents).

Halloween is one of those times where a kid is allowed to be a kid.

And by the way, should you have a kid who is developmentally disabled (the preferred term), you will see an entirely different perspective on this.

I would strongly suggest someone removes your use of the mentally disabled term from your post, and before Mark see's it. I am trying to do you a favour because he wont take so kindly to it.

sorry for saying retarded.

Beefhole, and all else:  I used to trick or treat.  But I did it in MY neighborhood.  What is annoying is how all of these random people come.  I had to walk my dog, and saw more than ten cars of people coming here for candy.

I am sorry if I insulted anyone.  When I said the r word, I meant it in a this is dumb kindof way.  I understand that a kid should be a kid, but having a large number of kids from the most random areas of houston, the 4th largest city in the united states, come into my neighborhood, it is annoying.  I have seen countless teenagers, who aren't doing it for fun, as they are wearing normal clothes and just want candy.  And many of these people don't even act the way you should if you are in someones neighborhood.  Parents sit in their cars and watch their kids go door to door.  They leave the cars sitting on both sides of the already narrow streets, having their blinkers on, some flash high beams, the let their kids just throw trash on the floor.  I saw a BEER CAN on the sidwalk.  I felt like throwing up :(  I just don't understand why someone would be drinking while walking their kids around at night, in the dark, and when its raining(yes, the weather stinks right now).  I dont hate halloween, I think its a fun holiday.  But I think that people should show some constraint and common courtesy.

Come to houston, youll see what I mean.

It's no problem Jake, you just need to know what can and can't be used here-I have an assload of words that I use on a daily basis and would never use here.

If you felt like throwing up because you saw a single beer can on the sidewalk, you need a strong dose of reality dude ;)

I wouldnt care about a beer can on anyother day, but on halloween, with all of these little kids, safety comes into play.  And I didn't really feel like throwing up, just a little hyperbole, but it still was one of those 'youve got to be kidding' kind of moments.

I am sure that how good halloween is depends on location (and I have no doubt that behavior is worse in some places, like older kids that just want candy and don't even dress up).

Halloween can and is sometimes stupid.  But only when people make it that way.  Things tend to get a little carried away around here and property damage is not funny.

I dont mind little kids trick or treating...just about everyone did the very same in the past.  It was always better some 10 years ago though :-/  Now people just use it like homecoming...an excuse to go out and vandalize :-/

As for tonight everything seems to be fine on my block...we will find out about the rest of the town once the sun comes up.

Other then ill be feeling this one in the morning :-[  i had a good time tonight...Now i just need to figure out how to get back over to my truck in 5 hours :-X :-[

I call people retarded all the time, and gay too.
Just do like we do on Halloween, lock your door, leave your porch light off, and ignore the little bastards.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

I could be wrong but the whole 'Trick or Treat' thing seems to be an American tradition. I don't remember it in the UK at all when I was young, certainly not in my part of the country. I always thought that the film ET was responsible for it being introduced here & possibly other parts of the world. It's big business now, rather like Father's Day & all the other things we seem to have imported from the US in recent years.

Whether the word 'retarded ' is acceptable or not, I must defend Jakemaster's point here. Not having grown up with this 'tradition' I can do without it but it would be acceptable if it's done by local kids, possibly accompanied by their parents as in the US. With the current situation in this country I would find lots of strangers descending on my neighbourhood & ringing door bells after dark threatening.

WOWZERS.... :o...!

For the first time ever, everyone on my housing estate had a peaceful night, with no-one constantly disturbing us, banging on the door, ringing the door-bell and demanding sweets or money, upon threat of having eggs thrown at our windows, or worse still, dog excrement, etc, thrust through our letter-boxes....
...as a joke...!

What a pleasant evening we all spent... 8)...!
Long may it continue... ;)...!
