SpeedTree

Postby Mobius » Tue Oct 18, 2005 5:18 pm

I saw this the other day.  A program that creates trees and forests that move in the wind and are incredibly detailed.  It's all really quite amazing.  Check out all the stuff under the "Downloads" section.

www.speedtree.com

The demos they have use a helocopter flying around the forests to show off how the trees and grass react when the propwash hits them.  Maybe a future for FS? ::) ;D

That feature is probably NOT going to be available in FS until probably FSXI [eleven]. ::)

No. Those trees are too detailed for a use in FS. MS would have to make the autogen more dense first anyways.

I agree.. those trees are far to detailed for Autogen.
Actually you also can use Speedtree to make much less detailed trees. But I don
NFo/Simviation Multiplayer Server.

Yeah, I found out about SpeedTree through Oblivion (which will pull me away from FS for a few months ::)) and we'll probably get trees like that in FS25-"Why Not Just Go Flying?"

The Elders Scrolls IV: Oblivion...

OBLIVION

It's an RPG you're pretty much placed in a world to do pretty much what you want, explore, dungeon-raiding, main story, etc.  The world in Oblivion is huge, 16 sq. miles, which doesn't sound big, but when you consider walking around it, it is big, not to mention that half of the land is covered in SpeedTree forests.  I played The Elder Scrolls III for longer than any other game I think I have ever played (other than flight sims of course ;D).

Click on the link to go to the official webpage and check out the screens and game info on the top left. :) ;)

I'm not sure if Guild Wars uses speed trees because I never bothered to check, let alone know about speed trees. But just like Elder Scrolls, it's also big. The Map [blurred to represent the fog of war] spans an entire continent. As I travel by foot, parts of the map begin to be more clear. However, I have played Guild Wars for over a month already and I still only managed to cover 1/5 [one-fifth] of the map. Believe me, it's big.
