I've never had any complaints about British Public transport. Rarely have I been on a delayed train and if I have then the delay has always been out of anyones control. Busses, though not as regular as in some places here again mostly run on time and I don't think I've seen one arrive late for many years. Even though it could no doubt be improved in several ways I don't think it's really anything to complain too vocally about.


As for the building, it looks very nice.

Well. I've read all that before & maybe Southern Trains is better than some of the others. I can only speak from experience. I don't see what difference changing the advertised times makes as long as they perform as advertised. It took me almost exactly 1 hour longer to drive home from Duxford on Sunday than it took to get there due to the amount of traffic on the M25. I've been stuck on that darned M25 for hours at times without moving more than a few hundred yards. People tend to forget that.

The train was dead on time both ways & a far less stressful journey. If it had been a few minutes late it wouldn't make much difference to me as I was reading an interesting book.

I haven't had any major problems with public transport. Its definitely the way to go in Oxford as, like everywhere else,  there's been a huge increase in car usage over the past 5 years and its now like driving in London. Luckily I only live 10 miles from work, leave at 4pm and its a 15 min drive home but if I wanna work a extra hour it can add an extra 45 mins to my journey

Getting back to the Tower, .....

I like it, as an ex yacht owner it certainly represents the spinnaker idea, it has style and grace (IMHO.)

Whether or not it is useful, represents the area, or is a good use of the no doubt considerable funds it must have cost, is another story.

And that sums it up nicely. It was originally funded by the national lottery as part of the Millennium celebrations & shouldn't have cost the taxpayer one penny. Like most of these things it came in late, several years late, & cost twice as much as originally quoted. So who pays for all that? Why, the poor bloomin' taxpayers of course as they always do.

PS. Despite all that, I like it & think it fits in well with its location overlooking the Solent. Now it's finally open for business I'll no doubt be catching a train down to Portsmouth Harbour & queuing up to hand over my fiver for a trip to the top along with the rest of the trippers. Keep your eyes peeled for photos in the not too distant future.
