Uhhh... Woody, before the mods chastise you about politics, do you wish to be sedated before they get here?

Just asking.

Pardon me, but space is never a waste of time. In fact, such things are never a waste of time. Was it a waste of time for Christopher Columbus to travel to what appeared to be the edge of the world? Was it a waste of time to build the hubble when it revealed many unexpected things about the cosmos? Was it a waste of time for Galileo to discuss the possibility that the Earth was never at the center of the cosmos?
It was space that taught us that it's possible for three suns to appear in a single solar system. It was space that encouraged the development of the now-known Orbiter Space Flight Simulator. It was space that taught us the effects of space on the human body. The idea of getting into space was also the reason why human kind [as a whole] has been striving in technology just to get there.
Global warming can never be fixed by human kind. Even if the US is to cease all use of gas-powered cars right now, we will still have the issue of other countries burning fossil fuels. Besides, Global Warming is a force of Mother Nature and we all know that Mother Nature refuses to be predictable or controlled in any way.
What if the cure to aids can be found in zero gravity? What if the cure to alzheimers can also be found there? We will never know if we don't at least try. If finding a cure means having to spend billions for space exploration, then so be it. If a cure is found, then the lives that can be saved will offset the cost.
Sure, we can redirect all of our money to giant telescopes and radio observatories like the one in Aresibo, but radio satellites and telescopes can only go so far.
