Well once again science takes something simple and fun and makes it boring and well, not fun. ::) ;D

Well, anyone living near a beach could have told them that. I spent half my mis-spent childhood on the beach & built my fair share of sandcastles with my little bucket & spade. Take it from me, this is much easier if you add a little seawater or use wet sand to start with. Trust me. 8)

As to why this should be, I must confess that asking the reason for this phenomenon never occurred to me. It was always like that & I have every confidence that it will remain so. I suppose that's the difference between an ordinary bloke like me & and one of them scientific boffin types. :D

PS. I couldn't help noticing that wet sand is sticky. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Ahh...
I wonder why the ancients never used wet sand in their hour glasses ::)? That may well have put a damper on the sands of time :'(. 8)

how is building sand castles fun? I would much rather sit in my car with binoculars and look at women.
