I had a dog that ate an alarm clock once...

Puppy swallows 13-inch knife

maybe the dog didn't realize that just because it's called a "steak knife" doesn't mean it's a knife made out of steak.

Eating etiquette isn't a first if he's like a lot of dogs so he may tend to swallow in whole chunks. Cutting it into smaller pieces was an afterthought.

Reminds me of a story my aunt told me once (probably true; she's crazy, but not a big liar): she had a kitten, and once noticed a bit of thread sticking out under its tail... chuckling over the little kitty eating thread, she gently pulled it and- out came a needle, still tied to the thread. She freaked out and rushed him to the vet, but he was A-OK; no damage.
Silly animals... almost as stupid as people, sometimes...

Assuming only the kitten was needled rather than us, that is why bones -- especially smaller, hollow ones (as those of birds, esp. chickens) -- are not always the best choice to give a pet
(??? um, that may include human ones ::)) to chew on.

I'm hungry, but I don't think I'll eat a knife. If I absolutely had to, I'd eat it bit by bit! :P
