It looks as though it's just you and I left in the whole world who agree that meals should always be taken in the following order...>>>

Breakfast: Early Morning.
Lunch: (optional). Mid Morning, Tea and biscuits.
Dinner: Mid Day.
Tea: Late Afternoon.
Supper: Before bed-time.

All you "Modern" lot out there, take note and observe... ... ...!

Darn I learned two things from this post LOL

I try to learn at least one new thing a day, well Paul it is not even 11:00 AM here and now I have learned two things.

The old girl will either be so proud of me when she gets home from church or I will catch hell for not getting some canning and preserves done LMAO

I know she prays for me when she goes to bed each night, that is why she only gets half a nights sleep I told her LOL, when she leaves Sunday morning for church she always says she will say a prayer for me.  I guess that is why she is always late getting home.

Well I had better get off this thing and do something constructive.

Think you got that slightly wrong Paul. The Union Flag is the national flag of the United Kingdom. It's often called the Union Jack. This is technically incorrect as a jack is small flag flown from a jackstaff.

Now I am confused.

Is it the Union Flag that flys over military bases and at consulates?

Does the Union Flag fly at the rear of a warship with the Union Jack being a smaller size flying from the bow of the same warship?

Does the Union Flag fly to the right behind the reviewing officer of a parade?

Do all other national flags along with unit colors fly to the left of the Union Flag on parade and I am talking about left of the reviewing officer if the Union Flag is behind him and to the right.

During a public parade when the Union Flag is carried by a color party does it fly to the right of the other flags.

I am talking strictly British Military Parades as I do believe most countries would probably be the same.

I always thought the Union Flag was the same as the Union Jack....guess I was wrong all these years.

Not to be confused with the U.S. [Confederate] Rebel Flag (as seen on Dukes of Hazzard Charger's rooftop) that was used as a union jack on vessels after 1862  :P.

Basically yes Doug. It's explained in Fozzer's link. This is the Union Flag.



The official national flag of the United Kingdom since 1801 & symbol of the British Empire. It can vary in size & is what you would see flown from flagpoles all over the world. The Union Flag is a combination of the red cross on a white background of St George (England), the white cross on a blue background of St Andrew (Scotland) & the red diagonal cross of St Patrick (Ireland). The Welsh dragon does not appear on the Union Flag. This is because when the first Union Flag was created in 1606, the Principality of Wales by that time was already united with England and was no longer a separate principality.
The fact the Union Flag is also commonly known as the Union Jack causes the confusion. This is only a technicality & might be based on a fallacy. There are several theories for the origin of the term jack when applied to flags & pennants.

All Royal Navy ships fly the White Ensign which incorporates the Union Flag.



Woody will correct me on this but I think it's normally flown from the stern. The White Ensign is also used as a battle ensign & hoisted to the top of the mast before going into action. If you see a Royal Navy ship with the battle ensign hoisted you know it means business. I don't know much about formal miltary etiquette as applied to flags or when a jack would be flown from the jackstaff at the bow of a ship.
I take it this refers to the Flag & not the Jack which adds to the confusion. The Union Flag (informally known as Union Jack) is not worn at sea except by Royalty or by certain Royal Navy officers. http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/White-Ensign
