I can't quote rules & regulations as I don't know them. I would certainly know them if I was still working but I've been retired for several years. It's quite likely that the rules in the UK are completely different to those in the US but I simply don't know. I'm just putting the case for those much-abused employers. With all the (often petty) rules & regulations they have to comply with these days it's surprising they haven't all gone to the wall.

Don't get me wrong Doug, until 4 years ago, I was one of those employers that is driven mad by idiotic labor laws.

I understand that in many European countries that a woman can get up to 2 years maternity leave. Here in the US it is limited to 8 to 12 weeks. During this period the woman must be paid her normal wage. After that she's on her own if she decides to stay out longer. In some states even the father is allowed a leave while his wife is home with the child for those  8 to 12 weeks.

The list of idiotic labor laws in the US would probably stretch to the moon and have literally put about 80% of all small business's out of business.

I was in the TA before going into the Regs ..... In some ways the TA soldiers are more committed and better at their respective jobs than the Regs.
I loved it .... but be prepared to do more than the minimum and make sure you get what you want out of it qualification wise etc.

I don't wish to interefere Craig. You know what you want to do & I'm not trying to discourage you. You're obviously interested in aviation or you wouldn't be here. I find it rather surprising that you're in the Army cadets rather than the ATC.

I joined the ACF for a hobby, i dont think there is a air cadets near to were i live.

If I were you I'd find out who the local units are

Reading is Royal Rifle Volunteers and a signals troop.
Basingstoke is the 21st SAS  ;D

I think ill be joining the Royal Rifle Volunteers  ;)

I can tell you now that in Canada Employers are encouraged to support their Employees in the Reserves.

I do believe there is a day set aside for the Employer to see actually what his Employee does and the Employer probably recieves a dinner and a certificate each year.

This was published in a magazine not to long ago.  Many Employers felt the Employee was a much better asset to the company as a member of the Reserves and supported him.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

When I was de-mobbed from the Army in 1957  (2-year National Service) we we were all automatically put on the standby list for the Territorial Army for 12 months, and (our) my biggest fear was  being called-up during that period to be shot by some foreigner in some foreign land.... :o...!

Territorial Army....?
I don't think so... ;)...!

Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.
