Another Fuel/Gas thread.

I didn't get to read the whole of the other fuel thread.... But I have discovered some information which should make interesting reading.  Since I have spent about 3/4 of an hour researching and making this post I decided to give it its own thread.

Bear in mind 1) Prices are quite a bit higher now and 2) The amount of tax and duty! Its about 60p/90p! That's 66%!

I know this has been done to death but I don't think there's any way of comparing UK & US petrol prices. The whole pricing system is different, not to mention the fluctuating exchange rate, difference between Imperial & US gallons & the fact that petrol in the UK is sold in litres. A one penny per litre price increase at the pumps might not sound much until you realise that there's 4.55 litres to an Imp gallon. Just thinking about converting that at this time of night makes my head hurt.

I have done a method Doug (and to anyone else interested) - I have posted it lots of times. Here it is with the method and an updated version. I have laid out the calculation. I hope it is quite simple to follow.

Some good reading, but already knew it. We did the calculation in the other thread with ways to work it out, also used Drumlines car for a basis as he gave a fuel tank size of his car to give him an average cost of filling his car coverted to UK gallons came out at about $103's to fill up a 15gallon tank.

Oh thump. Well maybe the detailed calcs above are accurate anyway. I never thought of pricing fuel tanks.  ::) Maybe I'll grab a few different car types then and add those to the post.

Very interesting chart Ben but as Craig says we covered all this in the other thread. I still say there's no point in trying to compare UK & US petrol/gas prices as the whole pricing structure is completely different. The only thing that matters is that the price of oil is rising & we're all going to keep paying more for it for some time yet.

 It's not even worth discussing anymore really, no matter what gas costs we will have to pay it if we want to get anywhere, unless you are a city dweller in which case you may be able to live your life without ever paying for gasoline directly, but I would expect bus fares and such to also rise as the cost of fuel increases.

Very interesting indeed Ben. You've obviously spent some time on this. I'm not sure what the car comparisons prove as I don't know how they determine the size of the tank. Assuming this is based on maximum mileage this would depend on the type of driving you do & the average speed you drive at. I think you'll find that many people like me rarely fill the tank but get a certain amount of petrol, let's say

It would be interesting though...Someone from over in the UK who fills their tank next time figure out your average KPL.  And convert over to the US MPG.  I have heard over the past that European cars are much more fuel efficient...never really heard any concreate evidence to prove it though.  

My moms car averages about 22 MPG and my truck has an average of only 15 MPG.  

But one plus side is that our prices here hit a level spot at $2.99 for a couple days...even though it still seems high at least its better then the origional $3.39
