For the sake of all the people still trapped in that area, please don't hijack this thread into a "US vs. the World" debate...

For myself, I know not what to say or think about this....

It's just...overwhelming...

As Jordon points out, please don't hijack the thread. Remember, politics is strictly unwelcomed. Been there, done that, not good at all.

Anyways, back to the topic.

What surprises me is that there are thieves out there stealing stuff from stores that are damaged or volnurable in a place that is already destroyed. Don't those mindless, failed-to-evolve, homostupiticous-like mammals realize that there is no place to sell or enjoy those stolen fur coats and expensive china?

For those who are taking just the food, I understand. They are hungry and need food real quick.

Quite right. There's a difference between people who procure what's needed to survive in a disaster and those who use the disorder to profit. If I need to kick in the door of a hardware store in an emergency to get tools to rescue someone I'll do it without a thought but stealing just for posessions or resale is disgusting. There's a reason they often give "shoot on sight" orders in cases of widespread looting.

Agreed with "US and World".  No politics here.  The thought has been burning in my mind but I was careful to not mention it in my posts.  I wish others would be as considerate.  Not to mention most political comments are smarted off, instead of debated.

One of the suggestions I heard (made lightheartedly of course) was instead of rebuilding New Orleans, why not make it the Venice of the US?  You could just have men in riverboats ferrying people around singing the blues. ;) Good to find the humour in a situation as bad as this.

Seriously, there's talk about people just staying here in Houston or other cities instead of moving back.  A lot of people had trouble evacuating because they were so poor or didn't have the means.  All in all, very disconcerting.

Very sad.... but I have a question or actually a statement....
Why on earth would you build a city by a large body of water that is under sea level...it makes no sense.

Maybe Souichiro or another Hollander could better answer that for you. Then there is the prediction that sea levels may rise an average of 30 feet world-wide as a result of 'global warming'; that would put many places in deep water.
When a hurricane heads inland, it still can be devastating. To where would everyone crowd to forever stay out of range: somebody needs to man the docks, etc. ... , during the calmer -- sometimes much sunnier -- lulls 8)?

I agree with the 'shoot on site' policy for looters who are stealing anything but food or necessary supplies.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

I suppose that would cut down a bit on the population and leave a bit more of the necessities for others in need.
There's no way to win in these situations::).

damnit paz, why do have the exact same veiws??

and apearantly allot of people here have never lived on the lower middle class, or where I am, upper lower class. My family, if it lived in new orleans, probably would've had to walked to the supper dome. We can't even afford gas for my dad's motorcycle, we receive just enough assistence from the Govnt to keep us alive, and occasionally not quite enough, I've had to go squirrle hunting before. Luckilly, I'm a fisherman as well, and we live about 3 minutes of walking away from the bluegill capital of the world, tycoon lake. Bluegill are actully almost gourmae (SP) tasting food, I'd eat bluegill even if I didn't have to.

Thats my lessoon on the underevolved lower class for today. Goodbye

Anyone who thinks the US is morally superior and can't turn into another Somalia or Iraq if the circumstances were right, needs to read this...
