There's also a Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, NY. Imagine my surprise when I watched the Neil Simon film.

Here's another surprise: that neighborhood is almost all Russian nowadays...
I guess in Simon's early years it was a mix of European types, but it's become a mecca for Russians. Supposedly a mecca for Russian gangsters, too, but that's silly- like saying there's Mafia activity in Manhattan's "Little Italy"!!

Remember that when many of these names were first applied on the east coast -- they were part of the British Empire .  8)
