Your Firearms?

Just a question... how many people would stay cool enough to use a gun during a robbery?

I think anyone with military training would stay cool enough. I realise that I come from an entirely different culture but I've never understood the obsession with personal firearms. My problem with relying on a gun for protection against burglars is this. Unless you carry a loaded firearm on your person at all times I wonder if you would have the opportunity to use it, especially if the burglar is armed.

Achilles - you are the exception.

I wouldn't trust the "normal" homeowner with anything more lethal than a set of barbeque tools (tongs, fork, and knife).  I wouldn't trust myself with one of the powerful handguns, let alone an assault rifle (not that I haven't shot stuff up to and including the latest M-249 SAW), but a gun-tooting rascal I'm not.

WHat the laws says I can do, and what I trust myself to do are two different things - and I hope that we all never have to test it.

(After all, according to weight-class rules, I'm in the super-heavyweight boxing class - I'd last about two seconds in the ring with a flyweight!)

But for a firearm, the closest I've got is an airgun and some airsoft.

And unlike so many people think in this country believe,
legally attaining a firearm in Canada is really quite easy.

That is a good point Doug. I often wonder why I have it, because unless I am in bed at the time of the robbery, I won't be anywhere near my gun. Incidentaly, the only time I have gotten it out because I thought I might need it is when I was almost asleep, and some jackass in the hallway pounded on my door and then left. Probably one of the same worthless people who vandalized the building when it first opened.

ive just a couple of shotguns, and an air rifle.
but i think if someone was stupid enough to break into my house, the dogs would get 'em before i had a chance to do anything

Well in my case, I'm a VERY light sleeper and rarely sleep beyond 4 am after hitting the hay at 12 midnight. The slightest noise and I'm up investigating it. Seems the memories of war and their inherent nightmares doesn't make for a good night sleep.

I have the AK ready at all times and a hand gun in my bed side night stand. Before anyone comments, I have never jumped out of bed and grabbed any weapon other than a Rambo style bowie knife to investigate noises. I am highly trained at knife fighting and unless the intruder had a gun. He's going to wish he'd picked another place to burglarize. But if the noise is definitely perceived as a burglar (glass breaking, door being forced, etc.), then the heavy equipment is deployed.

You missed my point Achilles... trained or not, an AK is 100% overkill.

Not smart if you have kids. If you do, then any weapons you own should be WAY out of their reach AND locked up. Sure, it makes it harder for you to get to them if you should need them, but I would rather get robbed at gun-point than leave a loaded gun where a kid could find it. Alternatively, they are now making guns with an RFID system that will only allow it to be fired if you are wearing an electronic wrist band or ring. Personally, I wouldn't want to put my life in the hands of a computer, but some would be comfortable with that.

being a brit, i find it very hard to imagine actually being allowed to own a gun such as an ak.
yes, ive got a couple of shotguns, but they are for pest control at the parents farm.
im not saying its wrong or anything, its just so different to us brits i suppose.  ???

Springfield 9mm sub-compact. lovely firearm..a bit too much recoil, but its a sub compact. the reason i got it was because of the 2 saftey triggers. one on the grip and one on the trigger..both have to be engaged.
