From the American's guide to British colloquial slang. It's entitled "Oi! Yanks! No!" but you'd have to be familiar with comedian Harry Enfield to understand that.

Pants = underwear. They're *underwear*. Not trousers. Also mild swearword.

As Smoke says, the word pants has various other meanings depending on the cirumstances but generally means knickers or a load of old rubbish.

Will,

A lot depends on what speed you are paying for!  If your broadband connection is supposed to be XXXXXXX up and XXXXXX down.... and you can consistently show that it is NOT that...... you have a real beef with your provider.

Then THEY have to show you WHY you are not getting the speed....... maybe in the process identifying the issues on your end that they are NOT responsible for.

If they are just "shorting you"...... then you have a reasonable consumer complaint to file.  being "telecommunications" companies... they MIGHT be "regulated" in such matters....... and sensitive to negative publicity.

Give it a check at many times during the day and keep the image files.  Then you have some documentation of the performance.

Thanks to my mom signing up for this cable deal without me knowing and reading anything...We are locked into a contract with this speed for a year...Now theres about 5 months left >:(

Called a tech and argued for awhile...They advertised and even our bills say we are getting highspeed...according to the tech "well, technically it IS highspeed"  I responded with something similar to..."well, technically your @$%@ing company is feeding people a bunch of bull $#$^.  But that doesnt matter to you false advertising @$%#$ anyway." click

Telling the guy off didn't accomplish anything usefull...But I definatly felt a little better  Sould have carried on for awhile longer sence they are not allowed to hang up

The problem with these broadband-connection seems to be that it's all depending on the local circumstances. A guy who works at my provider explained me that for instance, the distance from your home to the digital phone-center influences the speed. Also the number of users on the line that runs to that center could change things... And than you've got all sorts of contratcs with full capacity, narrowed-down variants etc...

Thanks John.  I am paying for a 1.1 Mbps connection and it seems that I am getting close to that.  I downloaded a few bits for Neverwinter Nights and maintained an average of 90KB/s.  It took 47 minutes to download a 240MB file, from Microsoft the GMax game pack for FS2004 took the same amount of time and that is only 15.1MB.

This is all rather confusing and according to BT I'm as far from the exchange as you can get and still get "Broadband".  The man recommended that I turn off all my firewall software...
