Movie weird thing..

Postby ozzy72 » Thu Jul 14, 2005 2:54 pm

Well this is a weird thing, The Battle of Britain is on Hungarian TV, but check this all the English voices have been dubbed into Hungarian (Sir Michael Caines is terrible!), but the Germans get subtitles..... weird or what? I know the Germans and Hungarians were allies but we're all friends now in the EU and NATO what is this?!
Honestly English is rapidly overtaking German as THE language to learn around here... no wonder so many Hungarians speak excellent German and appalling English ::)
Makes mutterings about xenophobia and anti-British sentiment by the TV monkeys :P Ah well there is a good dogfight coming up so I'll be back in a min ;)

A friend of mine told me this story once..

A friend of his bought the German box of Band of brothers...Dubbed of course..

This led to the funny situation that the German speaking Allies were Speaking to the German speaking Axis but they couldn't understand eachother....... ??? ;D

I must see that once!

Why would you have a problem with it being dubbed in Spanish?

(FYI:: THe original Star Trek dubbed in Spanish was more commanding that when I heard it in English..)

Hungarian Kevin, and not only can I read them fine but I know the script almost by heart and I'm a good lip-reader (it was tricky when they had oxygen masks on though...) ;D

Well, guess what it was like when it was shown on TV?
But I didn't mind, the series sucked so or so.

I'll reframe from saying what my initial reaction to this comment was going to be.

But I imagine you think the propaganda films made by the Third Reich were classic movies and more worthy of winning the same awards?

The Band of Brothers mini series was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards, and won six, including prizes for "Outstanding Miniseries", "Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special", and "Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special". It also won a Golden Globe for "Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television", an American Film Institute award, and was selected for a Peabody Award for "...relying on both history and memory to create a new tribute to those who fought to preserve liberty."

It was great entertainment, but anything than realistic. With german soldiers being dumb as bread and very stereotypic.

ut I imagine you think the propaganda films made by the Third Reich were classic movies and more worthy of winning the same awards?

WTF? I haven't even thought about Nazi propaganda movies.

The era of good war movies is over. All there is left is one-sided propaganda filled with gore and without respect for the enemy.
If I want to see a good war movie, I watch "BoB" or "The  longest Day", in which both sides are depicted equally.

P.S: Welcome back, Scott.
