when you put everything on paper, and i mean everything, from history to abilities to cost, performance and value, i would take the Saab, it has the longest history being a third gen fighter, is almost as good as the typhoon in every other department and looks great.
The Rafale is nothing more than a poor knock off of the Typhoon with a naval varient, but cant come close to its abilities.
The F-22 is the ultimate fighter in most areas, and would be the top pick for any airforce if it wernt for one huge problem, the cost.
The typhoon still has its problems but its benifits out weigh those 10 to 1. Its starting to sell around the world, its pretty cheap, can carry cruise missile at supersonic speeds. Can dogfight with the best of them, and can do the long range air ad ground attacks.
overall selection comes down to the typhoon, but only just over the Saab.

Hmm.. making unbiased decision... RAPTOR. hehe ;D

I don't mean anything by it, but it's almost like Europeans have this inferiority complex-I have yet to talk to a single European on this site who thinks that the F/A-18, F-15, F/A-22, F-ANYTHING can beat their beloved Typhoon.  I just don't agree, especially after we have repeatedly tested our stuff in battle, and many eurofighters (and their pilots) haven't seen as much action (from what I've read).

The F/A-18 is pretty much universally acknowledged to be the  best air supremacy fighter currently available-why?  Because it's proven it.  The Typhoon hasn't had the chance yet.  When it does, we'll see.

That's cause nothing can. ;D

Well, my main point here is that when every American picks US fighters and every European picks the Typhoon you can't really trust anyone's opinion, can you.

So the same thing can be said about the F-22, its further behind than the typhoon.
As for european jets being unprooven. May i remind you during the gulf war, it was bucaneers and Tornados who took on a huge load of the bombing missions through very low level high speed runs. As for air battles, neither have really had much to do in modern times. Any simulated battles have been done equally by the US and RAF. i'd also like to bring up the incident of two F15's from the best US squadron in europe who jumped from behind a typhoon who was carrying a trainee on a training mission. Well within a few seconds said typhoon had two simulated kills to its name. ;)

I think it all comes down to a pilots abilities. But if I had to choose on aircraft alone, I would go with the F/A-22. My reasons are: it is stealth. and it has one feature that seems over looked- Thrust Vectoring. TV would make the cobra maneuver possible, that is if the pilot can do it. I wanted to go with the SAAB, I really did, but I just dont think it would cut it against a Raptor.

Can I take this opportunity to also remind you all of the F15 pilot that managed  to drop a bomb on Yorkshire a couple of years back. :) :-*

we went into this in the edited section that time. Some 10 pages i believe. the cobra manuever doesnt mean much if anything, its an airshow piece 99% of the time, fully loaded with weapons most aircraft dont have that ability.
