Well it turns out, health and safety has stuck in its stupid wisdom. We had the RAF parachuters at cosford, well usually they would jump from 10,000+ i believe and they would all have smoke canisters on their boots. Now H&S say that is too dangerous to jump from that height with smoke going. Now they must jump from 5000(might be 4000) without the smoke. So now they have litteraly seconds to get their chute open. highly trained military jumpers, oh yeah much safer.

First I've heard of it. Nothing surprises me these days but maybe there's a reason behind it. Do you have a link with more info on this?

PS. From the shots you posted the weather wasn't too good at Cosford. The Falcons have 3 different displays depending on the conditions, just like the Red Arrows. If they do the Low Show they jump from between 4,000 - 2,200 feet. http://www.raf.mod.uk/falcons/

Air display commentators very often have no idea what they're talking about. Like DJs they just like the sound of their own voices. Ask Charlie.

i will agree with that. Especially the guy at Cosford, the same one who does most of the major shows.
It would also explain why they didnt use the smoke at Cosford. I hope i am wrong because it adds alot to the show.

A fall from 10k+' is dangerous but 4k' is any safer?
