corsair before asking others to change their sigs you might want to check out the rules for yours.

What's wrong with my sig? it's not offensive in anyway... and it's only 25K... the max size sig allowed is 30k....

You obviously haven't seen Father Ted.

nope, I haven't. but still... it is quite offensive to my religion... I'm not trying to make enemies... and I was planning on keepin' my mouth shut about it... but, I saw an oppurtinity rise.

Brandon

Edit - after re-reading the rules, I see that you can not link images from other sites... to be honest, the only reason I uploaded the image to photobucket was to save on bandwidth, and help Pete out. I'll change it immediately

I have thought about asking either a moderator or Paul (4_series_scania) about changing his signature picture.

If it offends, I'll happily replace it.  ;)  :-*

[quote]No religion is allowed on the board for a reason and it is to promote harmony among disagreeing parties. This not only applies to the Hindu, Muslim, R. Catholic and protestant it also applies to the atheist and agnostic. The atheist and agnostic has a religion to himself and it is HIS view and it is HIS opinion what he believes and NOT everyone else

Not even a particular individual thinks the same in every circumstance: we're often a contradiction unto ourselves. A person's very birth is involved with politics and religion; here, again, I can't confirm it for the rest of you (even though I have a few memories from my infancy before I could yet walk or talk), I have no recollection of asking to be spit out into this chaotic universe -- yet, here I am.
In my short lifespan I've encountered all sorts of things -- fortunately, not as bad as some; although I've had some worse things in my life I'm not about to say, "unfortunately, worse than others" -- I don't want anyone else in that situation. I've had friends who were atheist, protestant, catholic, muslim..... While I was in the Air Force 'being trained to/training others to' blow people and places away, I was studying for the ministry: how's that for contradiction.
Yes, I can be upset. Most often it's because someone misinterprets my intent. Usually, I try to be humorous but even that gets misconstrued (it's happened recently on this site): if I'm not taking your statement as an insult, why should I expect you'd do so with mine?
To sum up on a post that has become very political and religious on its own account, there's not one thing that can't be taken as some aspect of politics or religion -- by definition it's impossible because everything we say is relative to our beliefs. If the moderators were to eradicate everything with even a hint of politics or religion, we'd have an empty board - nothing - nada -nil-- staring at a blank monitor with our blank expressions imposed by our blank minds.  "Speak for yourself," you may say. I do -- for all our differences, quite alike, aren't we. ::)

Its not your fault Ramos - your post was just a piece of news thats was being reported which just happened to be related to a Religious figure - it wasn't until people brought up the subject later in the thread that arguments began.

I'd like to put it in this context - if a researcher published a report saying words to the effect that "someone else shot JFK" for example, and someone mentioned it in the forum, would everybody say it should be locked for being political? Or someone posts a picture of Air Force One - is that political? Or post a picture of a Church?

You get what I'm saying?

..........Hey Sai.............just read your "rantings" for the first time............well I always thought that one of the fundamental teachings of Christianity was "Turn the other cheek". Please feel free to rant at me some, but doesn't that mean you just smile sweetly and get on with things whatever life throws at you, without mithering (bitching) about it?....no offence old pal but looks like you might have forgotten that for the moment there..............commoner ;)

Goodness help us all if blinding arguments are created over straight forward important/un-important things like religion or politics....
Then we are going back into the dark ages, Hell-fire and damnation, and the Inquisition, etc, etc.
...and modern freedom of speech counts for nothing...

I am just very thankful that I live in a secular country, (England), where religion is of little or no importance in the every-day lives of the majority of it's population, and as for politics, I am very glad that we can also regularly remind our politicians that we as voters are in charge of policies, and if we dont like their suggestions we will let them know in whatever way it takes...!
I despair of anyone whose life is decided by their abject dedication to either religion or politics.
There are far too many people in this World at present who fall into that category, and that's when wars and conflicts constantly arise....look to past history for lessons...!

Fortunately, as we get older we also get wiser, (hopefully!).

Just my Euro's-worth...Buggar...sorry...politics again...LOL...!

Cheers all...!

Wow.........must have missed something. Not unusual for me anyway.

There is one reason and one reason only that politics and religion are taboo subjects here and most other places. They both are passionate issues to most people and will ALWAYS bring out passionate responses which ALWAYS lead to anger.....hurt feelings........outrage..........and yes.........even wars.

If there is a rule in place that these subjects are a NO NO, then this rule should be enforced totally and not selectively enforced.

Having said that, I am also a realist and realize that some will still make posts in these taboo areas, and yes, heaven help them, some will slip by the moderators OR the moderator deems it is ok................only to have one of us get irate over what we percieve to be a rule infraction that is being allowed.

I think that Simviation as a whole, the site, it's moderators and staff has done an excellant job at keeping this place friendly, helpful and informative. BUT, errors will be made, slip ups will occur, NO NOs will slip by the Mods now and then and sometimes bad judgement will occur.

I think everyone's heart and mind is in the right place, so I tend to overlook the occasional "HUMAN" error.

It is impossible to make everyone happy regarding anything, especially online.

Understand it is the nature of the beast. Like I said..........what did I say??...............OH YEAH.....where in the heck did I put my teeth!!

;D

The thing is... that what is whitin limits for someone from the UK (where it's quite normal to make fun of politicians and so on) is offensive for someone from another country. Any moderator will always judge by his own standards, that are a product of his upbringing, and can be a tad different from what they are for other people or cultures.

If someone feels that he is insulted by me... send a pm

My stance on:
Politics: Yes i have some weird ideas, most of which are too volatile to post here entirely, but they can surface in discussions from time to time, especially when i'm getting angry and usually on reactions of others that i think are unjust

Religion: I have a non-religious upbringing, but my stance on the subject is: Whatever you believe in go ahead, but don't try to convince me that your way is the only right one.

Ummmmm, yeah............what you guys said!

I suggest that we are all friends here and gentlemen can agree to disagree and STILL be friends.

First, the original post that is locked up tighter than a snare drum was not, in my opinion, a religious statement at all.
The article in question was delving into the medical process of death but on this one is concerned Jesus.

There have been plenty of shows that talked about the process of death from crucifixtion.

I found nothing religious or offensive from the post or article. However, the original post sure got things started and from there went downhill. This is when the heat started up.

Let's let it drop fellas. I can take a stance right here and now and half of you will be on my side, other half totally opposed. Then the next day I could do a 180 and guess what...........yep.....half of you on my side and the other half against.

So, as a gentleman, I agree to disagree with some of you on some of your ideas and thoughts. But you are entitled, as I.

BUT we are STILL FRIENDS!

People who get wound up over petty things like this are the sort of people that had the Life of Brian banned when it was first released in the cinemas. In the end all you're doing is stopping people from enjoying themselves. :P
