well had they not torn down the original wembley stadium then i would agree. But the fact is we do need a new national stadium, i dont think the millenium stadium is it though. There were plans to move the national stadium to Birmingham which my uncle was part of the campaign apparently. But that got nixed pretty quickly.

I think you misunderstood my comment Craig. By "it" I meant the Games.

I never understood why they couldn't wait to destroy the pitch & tear down Wembley before they had even discussed a replacement. Always seemed fishy to me.

The London transport system, with a few tweaks, could handle it. It would just be like an all day rush hour. Before you go too far in condemming it completely, just consider than a great part of the facilities are going to be built on the east end. What an excuse to demolish that part of London! ;D

The report praised Paris's excellent accommodation proposal, high capacity and quality metropolitan road and rail transport systems plus its "well-documented and achievable" budget.

Excellent road and rail transport? bullsh*t! I was in Paris earlier this year... the roads are about 1 1/2 ft. wide... every road you NEED to go down is a one way street... and some of the french people we ran into, especially at the airport... were all A-holes!

Now, I have never been to london so I can't say much about it... but, if Paris wants to have the games in 2012, they will have to make some MAJOR changes to the transportation system

You can't have it the american way everywhere. Paris is a city with history and narrow one-way streets are generally very common in older european cities.
Furthermore, if you're really using a car as a tourist from overseas in Paris, it's your own fault. There's enough public transportation to get you safely to every point in the city and you've also got feet.

P.S: I agree on the "french drivers are buttholes" part though.

I've never been to Paris but any historic city will have narrow roads.

Driving in Paris or any big European city is a nightmare...

Oh yeah! Even in smaller cities.

If the Paris public transport network is better than London's then it will be absolutely amazingly efficient and more than capable of handling the Olympics. And as Bjorn said, you don't drive round European capitals if you've got any sense at all.

The same applies in the US. If I recall correctly Washington DC & NYC might have wider streets but they're mainly one-way & it's often quicker to walk. I've driven in DC but didn't like the experience. I chickened out when it came to driving in Manhattan. :o

I personally found the public transport in Memphis awful and non-exsistant. And to be fair that may not be the same in new york and washington, but i have noticed in America that its car first every other form of transport second. And i wont even go into the complete lack of public transport outside of the cities.
Having been to paris i must say its dangerous to cross a street there. We walked around the city which was easy enough, but when it came to crossing the streets, stop signs meant nothing to the drivers there. Didnt use any public transport.

Hopefully there will be a good reason for it not to got to NYC - namely LA in 1984, and Atlanta in 1996. France had the winter games in 1992 (the last winter games in the same years as the summer games). Same for Moscow in 1980 with the summer games...

So really on those reasons, it should go to London or Madrid....

...but then again, we are talking about the IOC, so after careful condideration, I expect it will go to NYC...

Don't forget Barcelona, so going on the amount of time gone after the last time any of the candidate countries hosted the games it should be London. :P
