well apart from the butt kissing quotes at the end a pretty good read. Not sure if london having the games is a huge bit of good news, depends on how much debt it will end up creating. we shall see with the final vote.

I think it's Paris's turn now. I don't think they've hosted for a long time. I wouldn't mind seeing them come to London though.

Paris hasn't hosted in a while, but France hosted in Albertville in what, '88 was it?

I think it is plain stupid to spend all this money building stadiums and hotels to accomadate visitors just for some games! Then to see all of it wasted when the games are done.
I can think of millions of better uses than to support the Olympics

Would be a great source of revenue for the UK and a brilliant boost for the economy at the expense of the tax payer, more especially the folk in and around London. ::)

That aside - London struggles now with traffic. Tubes are packed and roads jammed. As for the notrious London Orbital the whopping M25 (otherwise known as the Worlds Biggest Car Park), which is clogged up so tight now, can one imagine what it would be like with MORE chuggers all trying to get to and form Heathrow!?  Help!:o

You have to consider the cost of providing all the facilities before thinking about profit. The only ones likely to benefit are the wide boys & criminals. I bet they're rubbing their hands at the thought of all those tourists. The Olympics is not like it used to be & each new venue has to outdo the previous one. That doesn't come cheap. Unless it's carefully planned this could bankrupt the city. I can give you two examples of how things are done in this country nowadays, the Millennium Dome & the new Wembley Stadium. In my view we would be better off without it.

but hey this new road charge thing could be in place by then,

That hare-brained idea deserves a thread of its own. On second thoughts, maybe not. ::) ;)

Well if it comes to figures do not look to government officiated accoutants.
Take a look at the scandal at Edinburgh. The biggest waste of money I have ever seen in my life. Holyrood. It cost more than ten times what was predicted. Half a billion pounds - nearly 1 billion US$ for a disgustingly new age house. That is bad investment. The dome was only a tenth of that.  ::)
