The Day After Tomorrow

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed May 04, 2005 11:58 pm

Well, just for grins, let's rip it to shreds!  As far as the technical facts go.  I have a project on the movie, and it'd be neat if I could put some technical information along with the plot analysis.

I'm not very creative, and all I can think about is the whole sequence of events for the disaster.  Icebergs melt, salinity is thrown off whack, ocean currents go bezerk and havoc is unleashed.  What can y'all pull out of y'all's noggins as far as really good technical stuff or really bad fibs? ;)

What an AWFUL movie!

How about the fact that the world is in such sorry shape that no one can go outside, yet the main character can WALK from Washington, DC to New York City?  And in what, a day and a half?

This is hands down one of the five worst films ever made.

I haven't seen this film so have no idea what it's about. There was a theory some years ago that if the ice caps continued melting at the current rate it would eventually affect the Gulf Stream & change the whole climate of North Western Europe. A new Ice Age. The reverse of the usual "global warming" predictions.

This is how they see it now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/climate/impact/gulf_stream.shtml

To add to that of Hagar

Also when Global heating grows more heat will rise and form clouds as you all know. Clouds reflect sunlight and thus heat. More clouds mean more heat deflection and lower temps here on earth. Add that to the possible melting of the polar caps and I think it is time to get out the old skates! ;D My geo teach told us about this theory. The could be an Ice age as soon as 30 yrs or so!

Let it snow, Let it snow!

.....and can you imagine running down a hall with the giant maxi-freeze ocurring right behind you, but once you close a wooden door behind yourself, there is a nice warm room to ward off that insta-ice-block effect, heated by burning books in a little fire-place....... ::)

About the only decent thing about the film were the effects.

One theory we have all forgotten is Global Dimming. This theory reverses the commonly held belief that mankind will wipe itself out by polluting the planet to death. Global Dimming has been caused by the burning of fossil fuels .... the particulates float up into the atmosphere and help clouds to form, thus artificially lowering temperatures and balancing out the effects of Global Warming.
The theory was found to have some truth after 9/11, when the groundstop temporarily cleared the  airways over the US and Europe. Temperatures over the US were observed to be 1-2 degrees higher over the next couple of weeks due to the lack of contrails.

I think Mother Nature has far more in her aresnal to balance man's puny efforts to disrupt. I'm not saying that man is't helping to speed things up ... but IMO I don't really think that anyone can predict what may or may not happen.

Well, it's still a terrible movie.  Not even Armageddon or Independence Day were THIS bad!  :)

Ahh, but see, this is a dangerous school of thought.  It was warmer, there were no planes in the air.  What evidence is there that the two are related?

Before Britney Spears was born, there were fewer school shootings.  Is that to say that she's running through the halls with a shotgun?  It's the same logic...

Just enjoy it for what it is. No need to nit-pick.

Britney can't be involved in school shootings. She's too blonde to handle a shotgun. ::)
