I heard from someone "in-the-know" that an accident at anything over 65 mph will probably fatal. :P

i don't see anything wrong with driving fast on the autobahn as long as the traffic permits it.

Unfortunately, there are always dickheads out there who are speeding like crap even during the rush hours.

i would like a more realistic speed limit to be placed on our motorways. 70mph is not a fair speed anymore, it should be raised to 80 or 90mph.

I can't say anything as I often speed on motorways. I overtook a police car at over 100 mph on the M40 in filthy conditions once & got away with a warning. It was raining so hard that I didn't even see the police car until it drew alongside me & they signalled me to pull over. I was the first to admit that it was stupid to drive so fast in those conditions & the police officer told me they'd had 6 accidents on that stretch of road that evening. I doubt I'd get away with it now.

The problem is that most modern cars are capable of sustained speeds much higher than the maximum speed limit. It's all too easy to increase speed without realising it. In actual fact speeding is false economy. It really doesn't make much difference to the length of the journey & increases fuel consumption dramatically. The answer is to leave a few minutes earlier & drive at a slower average speed. Far less stressful & tiring.

wow, Doug you are lucky, these days once you hit 100mph and they stop you, you might aswell give em your keys and ask them to tear your license up there.

[quote]I went to LA once and we rented a car to drive to Las Vegas and on the freeways through-out LA we were driving almost 100 mph and people were still passing us.

I was extremely lucky but police priorities have changed a lot since then. The very pleasant female police officer told me that it wasn't the speed they stopped me for but going at that speed in the conditions. They were interested in road safety & allowed to use their own judgement. She was happy to let me off with a warning providing I stopped for a rest & a hot drink at the nearest service area. Now they would simply issue a spot fine or a ticket. It's quite likely I would have lost my licence.

Or even more likely, been fined and given three points.

Not once you hit 100mph. Its quite funny watching cars being followed by unmarked and marked cop cars who sit behind them waiting till they hit 100 before pulling them over. They usually give them a mile or 2  to either notice and slow down or pull em over.

well i it just blows, max spped allowed by IL law is 65. and 55 in urban areas, such as chicago. but traffic normally does 65-70, even the cops do it.

it's 55mph all around me. I can't hit 65 until i've passed Aurora.

I'm not going any faster than 90 mph on our Autobahns. Most of the time, the speed is limited to 70-80 mph anyways.

you need to get yourself an M3. you don't know what your'e missing. 300km/h in a 120km/h zone ;D ;D  Only in light traffic tough. Too bad socialist Bjorn only knows the metric system... ;D ;D

M3 (actually any german car except porsche) is limited to 250kmh unless it's tuned and has the limiter removed

the infamous VROS (police jargon for unmarked cop car, one of these in holland is a WRX impreza) cars that provide footage for 'Blik op de Weg' and other tv programmes like that

Even a M3 only sees my rearlights on the Autobahn if I push the pedal to the metal. ;p
Oh, and guys going insanely fast in inappropriate conditions usually get to see my middle finger.

The Metric system is used throughout Europe. Most people under the age of 30 were taught it at school & know nothing else. The politics of the individual or country has nothing to do with it. At least Bjorn converted his speed into mph so others could understand it. :P
