I wasn't suggesting that. I know that a ton of metal will do damage going at any speed.

I was just amused at Anonyramos's comment about driving at a shocking 70-75mph!!! :o :o :o

Considering the 55MPH Limit in the States (correct me if thats wrong guys!) I suppose 75 would feel way fast!  ;D

I'm not going any faster than 90 mph on our Autobahns. Most of the time, the speed is limited to 70-80 mph anyways.

speed limit on autobahn? damn pigs fine men and women of law enforcement just trying to make money for the gov. >:(

The speed limit does vary from state to state.  Here in New York, the most you can do is 65.  HOWEVER, if 45 is what is posted, then the limit is 45.  All roads are different.  In this case, they were doing 60-80 in a 45....
Great edit, Bob.

wern't the roads slick the other night? We got a pretty good freeze down here, with rain earlier in the day,  so there was black ice.

Well, I don't drive yet, but my dad drives FAST.  He has a BMW 540i, and he knows how to use it.  The acceleration on that thing.... I mean man.  But he only does it when there's noone else around, or on on-ramps, or back roads, or straightaways, or....

I went to LA once and we rented a car to drive to Las Vegas and on the freeways through-out LA we were driving almost 100 mph and people were still passing us.  :o  But once we got out into Death Valley, we went over 100 mph just to take a picture of the speedometer. ;D ::)

I think some of you would crap yourselves on our motorways. My cousin and uncle are both regulars on there and its not unusual to see them doing 110 115mph when its clear.

the limits mostly depend on residential areas close to the autobahn and on damn construction sites, of which there's one about every 4 miles  :P. certain autobahns are less restricted than others. usually the smaller ones have less limits than the major ones. the one i need to use the most is unfortunately one of the major ones ::). so it's about 50% limited to lets say 80 miles and 50% without limit. i do drive about 110 (all i can get out of my car) whenever theres no limit but you can imagine that that's not especially fast considering i got people overtaking me with 140 ::). i don't see anything wrong with driving fast on the autobahn as long as the traffic permits it.

Five miles an hour over the speed limit probably won't get you killed, or even a ticket.  Sure, it's as illegal as someone doing 115, but I'm not unrealistic either.

But 60-80 in a 45, on a back road that is full of hills and turns....that's just stupid.  Anyone who writes it off as "no big deal" has never had to get out the sponge and clean up the mess it makes when it BECOMES a big deal...if they did, they'd probably change their views...
