Fresh Water .......?

Is the huge trend to drink bottled water really the way to go, or is it just something that gets lots of people taken in by fancy ideas and advertising......

I would agree with you, but tap water tasts like @$$ here. I almost cant stand to drink it, so I started getting the cheapest bottled water I could find ... I hope I dont turn into a yuppie.

I rarely drink water without something in it so I can't speak for the taste. I think most people are fooling themselves if they think the bottled stuff is healthier. I've read that tap water in the UK is generally purer than the bottled stuff. It's their choice if they want to pay through the nose for it.

I saw something on my first holiday in Spain that shows just how stupid the whole thing is. We had been advised to drink only bottled water & also clean our teeth with it as the tap water might not be too reliable for visitors. (The locals were used to it.) One morning I was walking round the back of the hotel when a barman came out & filled all the empties from the previous evening with tap water from a standpipe. These were promptly put on the shelves ready for sale. Says it all really.

PS. That was back in the early 70s. If someone had told me then that the British public would be happily paying

I remember when I was posted to Germany we were advised that a famous brand of water from France was unsafe for human comsumption...seems it was different than the same-label stuff in Canada.

Kinda weird being advised to drink tap water because the bottled stuff is unsafe.

They couldn't pull that trick here, the tap water has so much chlorine in it that sometimes you come out of the shower smelling like you've just got out of a swimming pool (and I'm NOT joking)

Same for some regions of France. Our tap water is quite nice 'though.
