stupid name, it should've stayed 7e7...

no, i thought i heard prelim's from united that they wouldn't buy the A380 due to airport costs...

again, $10 mil for the airports to revamp for the A380, i don't know of any who is going to jump on the wagon to revamp. O'Hare certainly has no intentions now, espically since the main 3 terminals are geting a makeover...

787 seems perfectly logical to me.

Not what it says here. http://www.usatoday.com/money/biztravel/2005-01-16-a380-side_x.htm

NEXT SUMMER. It is highly unlikely it will be delayed, Airbus and the Airlines have both said it will be in service in about 13 to 14 months tops.

Yeah, and the space shuttle was supposed to fly how long ago?

Goes to show that you can't trust everything you hear.. ;)

OMG!!!! $6.6 Billion!!!!

CHicago will never stand for it. we've been battling the O'Hare commission for years about O'Hare Expansion. so far we're winning, but after this, idk what will happen. thank god we're not paying taxes on the airport, or taxes would jump to like 50% or something.

Big differance there. And the shuttle was never given an actual date. Usually you will find aircraft in these cases are delivered on time. Thats why they give pleanty of time for testing.

I don't know but I doubt it. AFAIK the A380 is not intended for that market. I would think that US domestic airlines would naturally go for US-manufactured aircraft if possible.

No to the first question from James no us companies have ordered it.
Doug, many US companies use Airbus. Northwest, united, US air to name a few.

That's true but these are conventional airliners that can operate from the same airports as their competitors. The US is a big country but I don't see the A380 being used for internal flights. I don't thnk that's what it was ever intended for.

I think it's a great pity that politics & nationalism comes into this. I have little interest in airliners but felt just like a kid again watching that big bird take to the skies yesterday. I can't remember the last time I felt like that but it was many years ago. It takes a lot to impress a cynical old fool like me but I think it was a really great achievement. Fantastic........! 8) ;)

Well done to all concerned & I wish Airbus every success. It's about time we had a little healthy competition.

The A380 is too expensive for most US airlines right now. And with most internal routes not having a capacity for it as you said theres no point in buying it. Fed-ex however have bought a load of them, and they will be seen often round Memphis and its other hubs.

Unless FedEx and UPS put seats in theirs! ;)

Airports won't upgrade until a major carrier using the airport orders, and intends to use, the A380 at that airport. Otherwise it'd be pointless. Once a major airlines offers to bring in 500-700 people on an A380 a several times a week, most airports will be happy to expand...

Indeed. Very illuminating. I see one glaring omission. ::)

BA dont want it right now. They might consider it in the future, but the new 747adv is also something they are looking into.
