Going Gliding

Planning to go flying in gliders Sunday with my CAP squadren.  It was planned for tomarrow, but this damn Kansas wind messes everything up.  

Any tips from more experienced glider pilots?

When encountering a 747 and such in front of you you are probaply quite high do not forget your oxygen masks!! and do net what 7/10 simv'ers would do and play chicken with it

...mmm....make sure your instructor gets in BEFORE you do..........the bungee gang or winch operatives were sometimes too quick off the mark at times as I remember......it'd feel very scary at 3000ft on your todd, if you couldn't fly the damned thing............commoner ;)

I don't know what experience you have or if you've ever been gliding before. My advice would be to forget everything you think you know & listen to your instructor.

Gliders always remind me of my balsa-wood, model glider constructions from many years ago....!

You spend days constructing them....

Then you go out into a big field...

Launch them...

...and say..."Goodbye".... :'(...!

Go back home, and spend days constructing another one...

Nothing wrong with gliders (sailplanes) Paul. In fact glider pilots usually make the best pilots. They know how to use the elements to their own advantage & won't panic if that fan up the front suddenly stops spinning for any reason. The nearest thing you will get to real flying & much like sailing compared with power boats. This applies to both R/C modellers & "real" pilots. Gliders are quiet, graceful things of beauty. Powered aircraft are noisy, messy things. Try silent flight some time & see what you've been missing all these years. ;)

...It's just that I wasted so many early years launching my balsa-wood, doped paper, models* into the wide blue yonder....
...never to see them again... :'(...!

** They are a regular sight at Shobdon, (EGBS), and we have the luxury of the local Black Mountain range to give them up-draught... 8)... ;D...!

LOL...!

You obviously didn't trim them properly or you could have used a dethermaliser. http://f4bscale.worldonline.co.uk/dt.htm
I always write my name & telephone number in my models just in case.

If I was younger I would seriously give hang-gliding a go. I reckon that would have suited me a treat but I would probably end up breaking my neck now. 8) ;)

Lovely pic....the buildings are very accurate...just that the Tower is missing!
...and the Flight Sim, English scenery is always flat!... :'(...!

Even the UK scenery mesh, and VFR Photographic Scenery from justflight.com is un-realistic... :'(...!
