Hand held ATC radios...

Hello, does anyone know of a semi-cheap less than $100 that will allow me to get ATC chatter, I was hopping, and was told, that Radio shack does sell radios that could be used to listen to ATC

Yep, Radio Shack does have scanners....just make sure you know the local regulations regarding police scanners.  Here in New York, you're not allowed to have them in your car.  (Ahem.....you're not SUPPOSED to have them in your car.  I've  heard a few stories of people bringing them planespotting with them, and if it isn't plugged in while you're driving there, I think you'd be fine.)

which band of radio should I buy..right now I have great hand-held radio but its bands arn't high enough for aircraft listening...does anyone know because I could purchase higher band freq. and listen to aircraft with the hand-held radio I own now

I have the Maycom ar108. Very good scanner, but not for the beginner, and if you buy it also invest in a frequency book, as searching with it, takes a long time.

JRP, if you wanna PM me where you live, I might be able to find you some frequency lists...they're pretty abundant on the net, and I've got a site that I frequent that covers a very broad area and is very thorough.  

As for which freqs it covers, they're usually listed in the specs of the scanner...just look for something that covers the bands you're hoping to get.  Normally they say "Police, Fire, Air, Marine..." etc somewhere...look for "Air".
