I think the best alternative for energy is neither wind nor nuclear, but solar.  It is more reliable than wind, produces no waste at all, and you can put them about anywhere without damging the environment.

Solar power is most definatly the best alternitive, I don't seem to see ANY problems with it. you can store it for rainy days, and is infinite. If we could figure out how to use it as perpulsion in outer space, we could make mars oours!!!

I can only quote this from my earlier link. Bear in mind that this refers to the UK & the article is biased towards nuclear power.
To replace a 1,000 megawatt (MW) nuclear station supplying just 1/65th of peak demand requires 30 miles of wave machines; or it would need a wind farm that would cover an area equivalent to Inner London, or for solar power, it would require an area half as much again.

Solar power is not the answer either I’m afraid. They're expensive, fragile materials need constant maintenance & require replacement as often :o

It doesn't have to be expensive. My late father-in-law built a solar unit to heat a swimming pool from a few old central heating radiators & some copper tubing. It worked perfectly & was almost too efficient. There's no reason a combination of all these methods couldn't be used to reduce demand on precious resources.

Personal solar panels are more likely the best way to go, like Dougs father in law. I have seen a number of houses where i used to live who had them built into the roof of their house. This is a good way to build up and store power to switch from the usual source. If even 25% of homes in Britain had these imagine the reduction in power use. If the government offered assistance to install these all the better.

What the heck do you want on Mars? Doing some rock-watching?

A newspaper article on the exploration of Mars was one of the subjects in my english exam. Written after Dubyah's "conquering Mars...blahblah" speech, it opposed the idea of sending humans to that planet. And the author made some damn good points why we should leave it at sending robots up there instead of humans.

From what I've read, space travel in general is not the great new thing it was cracked up to be.  Besides being incredibly expensive, our bodies are not made to be in a zero-g environment.  Without the healthy stresses of gravity on your body, you start getting problems associated with arthritis.

I've heard that astronauts spend much of their time vomiting and that they have to get used to the Earth's gravity after being in space for long periods of time (hence why they're often sitting).

I heard an Astronaut talk and what he said was that while on Mir, they spoke mostly Russian...

Hardly surprising as I believe Mir was a Russian project. It's quite possible that being fluent in the language was a requirement for any astronaut being aboard.

hey, how about poopimobiles. all the seats would have holes in them where one can dump, while driving. gas produced may be enough to run the vehicle......would have a douche built in....could start a whole new designer clothes industry with flaps on the rear of the trousers or.........would really encourage car pooling. .........vic

Possibly a universal language...?

I think most people speak Russian under stressful situations.

I can speak fluent Russian if I happen to flatten my thumb with a lump hammer*...!

wonder what kind of cars you drive down there...i'm 64 and my wife's 54 and we drive a 50cc scooter here in vancouver bc.....through most of the winter too. we're trying to do our part. sure hope we find an alternate sorce of fuel soon. but it seems we do everything when its too late. if man would stop mulitplying so fast. he would have more time to find and develop new technology in time for it to be useful........ its almost like we're trying to cure cancer, when maybe we ourselves are the cancer on this planet..... some, designated as
