In my part of the state (New Mexico), we used to have a lot of gas, unfortunately its almost dried up, on the bright side, gas is still well below the average at $1.87.  I heard the reason this is happening is because OPEC has cut back its production.  I don't know if people in other countries are whiners like people here in the U.S., but alot of people are calling to open up the national reserve, although I heard it will only decrease price a couple of cents and only for a short time.  I know there are places with more than $1.87 for gas, but back when gas was cheap here (like $1.20), the ski resort town that I ski at fairly often had about $1.85.  Everybody seemed happy, though.  Didn't here any anyone complain, probably because they got used to gas being expensive in the mountains, or they just never got out of town (I wouldn't blame them, it is a lovely place they live in).

In Calgary here we are paying 88.9 Cents/Litre...

But to put this all into perspective...consider this....compared with Gasoline....

Diet SnappleImage  16 oz $1.29 .. $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice TeaImage 16 oz $1.19 $9.52 per gallon
Ocean SprayImage 16 oz $1.25 ....... $10.00 per gallon
Brake FluidImage 12 oz $3.15 ....... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's NyquilImage   6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto BismolImage     4 oz $3.85 . $123.20 per gallon
WhiteoutImage   7 oz $1.39 .... . $25.42 per gallon
ScopeImage     1.5 oz $0.99 .$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian waterImage   9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?  $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source.

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

Cherokee's comparison reminds me of an joke I heard. People get mad for paying 90 cents a liter for gas and then cool off with a 500ml bottle of water for $2.00.

Gas here in town was 83 cents/liter at Esso. I had half a tank so I decided to put $20 in before prices skyrocketed again.

Suprisingly, it seeme that gas prices are starting to drop (at least here).  Yesterday premium (92 octane) was $2.59 but when I drove by the station on my way to school this morning is was $2.56 and I went past it again on my way home it was $2.54!  Maybe it's going to drop back down somewhat!!!

Thanks for that, Cherokee.  I happened to hear that list on a certain very popular national radio program a few weeks back but I was in the middle of the highway so there's no way I could have stopped to write it down.

Love it.
Great edit, Bob.

I waited 30 minutes (!) to pay $2.05 per gallon yesterday. The good part is, at the exact moment I was done pumping they raised the price to $2.15  8)... that was nice then, but when I have to get gas later this week it will be even more. when it hits $3.50 I will stop driving and get a bike, or an electric conversion kit and a VW beatle. Im sick of this s**t, and I know its worse in the UK, but we arent used to this here.

Look at it this way.

Oil is running $58 a barrel now and gas prices in this area are $2.15 a gallon.

Remember whining about $1.50 a gallon gas? Sounds cheap now doesn't it

But wait till oil gets to $100 a barrel. Then you will be wishing for $2.15 a gallon gas again.

Nuff 'said
