Just been watching an episode of this show and i got me thinking. Do the people involved in their cars getting outfitted get charged with a tax, much like those people who received a car on Oprah winfreys show. In a couple of cases with this show they have given them a new car with a further 10 grand worth of goods, on top of a 25 to 30 grand car. Some of the additions include expensive sattelite tv, internet and so on. So does anybody who might have a better insight with the show know if they do get charged a tax or some simmilar fee. Its just with all the participants being poor college students, i cant imagine them being able to pay 3 to 8 grands worth of fees.

I don't know about some of the others out there, but if someone were to take the 63 comet that I inherited when my grandfather passed away, I'd galdly take out loans etc, in order to keep it..;-)

I would imagine they'd have to pay the tax on the value of the items...here in New York, if someone gives me an item over a certain value, I have to pay the tax on it.

Funny show to watch but wouldn't like to ride/own one of these cars. Imagine, couple of grand worth of stereo's, flatscreens, rimms, X-boxes,... all shown on MTV. Isn't that an open invite to every crook in the area to "lend" the car?

In Belgium big prizes, like the lottery, often are tax-free... no hidden twitches there! Hope it's the same in the US.

Omag, In the US they get charged a tax on the lottery and like Hype said, gifts over a certain value. I am just wondering if MTV cover the cost of the tax as its unfair giving a poor kid a refitted car and then to dump em with $8000's of tax. Your right though, it is an invitation for those who want to borrow it:) It would also be interesting to see if the show or the garage offer follow up repairs when all these silly gadgets they put in there fail.

I still don't get the use of the word Pimp in this context. Surely they left out the letter R & mean Primp.

Pimp still has the same meaning Doug. But they have a reputation for driving around in big, heavy cars will as many accessories as you could possibly fit on to it. Therefore fixing up a car like that has taken a share in the word. Usually the people who drive em are wannabe pimps anyway.

Then it got "Pimped" and looked just as bad, minus the rust :-/

I'll give it a miss if you don't mind. The idea of being proud of being a pimp is beyond my imagination. I'll go back to living in my own little world where things are far less complicated. If someone ever calls me a pimp he will still get a bloody nose.

MTV foots the bill. This is a show ...... West Coast Custom get a lot of publicity & 50K for a MTV show is nothing .....

They never do cars for people who could actually afford the typical $30K it would take to customise the cars in this way ...  ;)

Not that I disagree with you on the term...I don't understand it either (and it certainly doesn't sound like a compliment to me).   But...how old are you (roughly).  I thought you were Fozzer's age, but you told me you were younger than that, but now you're starting to sound as if you are?
