Postby Ace_777 » Wed Mar 09, 2005 5:17 pm

O.k so it was late one night and I was crusing the T.V channels then I discovered this one channel called BBC Parliment. So I started watching these two guys slate eachother saying yada yada yada yada. Here some stuff I dont understand

1) Mr/Madam Speaker does not own Britain.
2) The books just contain a lot of hot air, as do the politicians.
3) Parliament is not 24 hours a day, our MP's don't work that hard.
4) Slating one another is a must, the more it is like a school playgroud then the better things are going.
5) Yes there have been fights.

Hope this helps.

Mr. Speaker is the Speaker of The House, and is meant to keep things in order. Sits on a big chair at the top of the House and wears black and gold robes and a rather naff wig.
The books I believe are the Laws of the United Kingdom... but I'm not definite on that one!
Parliament isn't open 24 hours a day, but does often run late into the night.
MPs are not meant to be rude to one another and can be removed or even banned from the House for bad behaviour.
I don't think there have been any punch-ups between MPs, but some MPs (and the PM) have been attacked from the public gallery (most recently with condoms full of flour) ;D

1) Yes, Mr Speaker owns all of Britain & a small timeshare in Tenerife.

2) The books are all about spelling & punctuation - you should go.

3) Parliment is open 9-5pm - K-mart is 24hrs!!

4) Not sure about 'slating', but they can '$lag each other off' as much as they like (up until 5pm).

5) Yes, many - but they banned 'flick knives' 12 months ago, so it's more like Jerry Springer now.

;)

I think the two parties are two sword length apart to prevent fights.

When I was in student government, I'd flash funny pictures at the opposing party when they had something to say...just to make them stummer. But it got the speaker of the house mad.

Heres one of the pictures, I'm suppried the file survived.

Hi Ace,

Whats wrong with my spelling ?

I was referring to:
Parliment.
&
eachother
(two words).

But please don't take offence, it was only meant as a light-hearted joke.  :D

Cheers,

TSC.
