A good definition might be: flying into areas that are so remote and unimproved that they are only accessible by aircraft, esp. on a seasonal basis (think Alaska).
Bush pilots in Alaska routinely takeoff and land on meadows, dry stream beds, glaciers, etc., and they carry everything and everyone wherever and whenever they're needed.Especially in the winter, when most of the state is snowed-in.
To get a job  flying even  VFR-only in Alaska, I believe you need at least 1000 hrs.' flying time, half of it  in Alaska, and several hundred hours of winter flying in the recent past, because the weather is so crazy and the terrain and airstrips so rough.

When I think of bush flying I think of flying up in the forest landing in any open clearing you can find and fishing... ::)

what is bush flying?

Gotta get my plug in.  ;D

To find out more about bush flying in the sim go here:

Bush Flying Unlimted
http://bfu.avsim.net/

Read the discussion and job forum. Maybe pick up a job or two and see how you like it. Make sure you use real weather when you fly the job. Rottydaddy wasn't kidding above when he said Alaska weather is crazy.  ;D

If you like that and want to really get serious about it then you probably will want to get Misty Fjords scenery add on. It's spectacular for this kind of flying. Oh and you better carry a good survival kit when you fly.
