For those of you that are NASCAR style gear heads there is history going on today in Mexico City.

Yeah I watched it and as always boring, I don't care for a road course race ;)
NASCAR has "exported" in the past with the event in Japan, apparently it was a one time thing, I find this to be nothing but a plublicity stunt and we'll probably never see it again. NASCAR is going down the drain at a rapid pace, seems to happen when they stop focusing on the sport and look only at money ;)
And fan attendance amounts are always exagerated on TV, NASCAR wants you to belive there are more than there is.95,000 is a more accurate count ;)
This holds true for Indy racing, on tv they make it appear that the Indy 500 is a sold out event, in real life there are plenty of seats to be had (and cheap), I know I was there last year and had a family member tape the race for me, upon viewing the race on tv I realized that there were a bunch of fans on tv that I apparently didn't see at the race ::)

Its impossible to tell the empty seats from the full ones when cameras are focused on cars going 210mph+ so yep they can et away with saying its full:) Prefer F1 myself, much more exciting as a whole, we dont get nascar on any of the main channels here, you gotta pay an extra $28(

As a kid I remember going to the Indy (this is back in the 70's) and it was incredible. Nowadays track racing seems to be dying out, oddly Motorbike GP is going through a revival.
Personally I love rallying however, but it never really caught on in the US :(

Why not in Mexico?  After all, look at the number of "US" cars that are manufactured/assembled in Mexico anyway!

Mexico has an interesting history of road racing - and not just the Baja off-road race.  I presume that there are people who still remember Pedro and Ricardo Rodriguez who drove for Ferrari in the late '50s/early '60s?

If & when they bring back that type of motor racing it might just revive my interest.

And lose the wings too... Bring back some proper circuits too (lets have a GP round the whole Nurburgring! ;) ), and stop people fiddling around with the ones we've got...

Exactly! The times when guys got together built a car and on Sunday seen who buit the best!
A time when a Ford was a Ford and a Chevy a Chevy, not today when they are the same thing with a sticker on them.
The time when it was the car builders and driver that won the race.
I can't understand NASCAR wanting to even the playing field so that all cars are the same, that isn't the point now is it? Not to mention that series already exsits called IROC ;)
The point is the team with the best crew, engine builder, driver etc wins the race.

NASCARS excuse is to even the playing field it helps drivers who may not have the finances and experiance get a fair shot at winning, what is the point then just give them the trophy, this is the result of the world in which we live no one wants to work to achive anything anymore :(

Its the same with F1. Ferrari are the best team, they put in the most work and money, and they win, ok not the last race but that was a slip up ::) Instead of putting in the time to win, the others teams complain to officials for rule changes to slow the cars down. F1 is supposed to be the best of the best in motor racing and they want the cars going slower than f3 cars. ::)
