Yeah, he can't call himself Sir. Seeing how he lacks the whole commonwealth citizenship thing.
So rather, he's a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
That's quite a mouth full, makes me glad I'm a Canadian.

I understand from the news that the Queen never had a computer & doesn't have the faintest idea of how to use one. Knighthoods are usually granted for great achievements & things like charity work. It's a nice honour but has little meaning these days. The main thing about it is being called Sir which is denied to Bill Gates.

PS. I'm sure he deserves it just as much as some of the people that get these things.

Nice for Bill, like Hagar says its an honourary award, a number of prominent Americans have been given them over the years, I still can't work out why Ronald Reagan got one...
So who is going to nominate me for one? I fancy annoying my clan by being Sir Mark 8)

Good for him, I guess. Say what you will about Microsoft, Gates really is a high-powered philanthropist; he spends a lot of time trying to give away most of that money of his, and doesn't seem to toot his own horn much about it.
Talk about "Revenge of the Nerds"... :D
And I'll pass on a knighthood, myself: I want some of Bill's money!!! ;D

One thing you should realise is that these honours are recommended by the government. Some at least are politically motivated, rewards for past favours etc. The Queen has no say in the matter. She just hands them out.

My cynical side is showing again. ::)

Better make friends with you know who then. :o :P

Sorry but no. We were never formally introduced. :P :D

I believe Her Royal Majesty has a website. Her phone number or e-mail address might be on there. It won't do you any good though as she has no say in the matter. It's the other one you need you make friends with. Somehow I don't fancy your chances. :o

Probably not as my ambition is to be asked by Liz to snick his head and the Tellytubbies heads off at the Tower, failing that drown them in warm marmalade ;D

You might well think that, I can't possibly comment. If we are getting political, which I neither deny nor admit, it's in the nicest possible way. :D

Whats political about wanting to drown the Tellytubbies in a vat of warm marmalade? I feel its a natural reaction to them ;D
