Postby RichieB16 » Fri Mar 04, 2005 5:22 pm

Hey guys, I have a quick question that I was hopeing someone here could answer.

As many of you know, I go to car shows during the summer and display my car.

Generally speaking, a photograph is the legal property of he who shoots it.

That said, if your shots only include the cars, I wouldn't worry too much.  (If you're REALLY worried about it, get the owner's name and info, and post that with your shot, but I don't think it is necessary.)

Also, if your pictures have any PEOPLE in them, you may want to consider having them sign clearances to publish their faces.  Or, just blur the faces, it's a lot easier.   lol  (But again, if you're just doing a photo album kinda thing, it's probably not even necessary.)
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

I think it is alright as long as you block out anything that might identify someone (license plate, name, address, etc...).  Paparazzi take all kinds of photos people don't want taken and can still publish them (not comparing you to paparazzi), but the principle is the same.  HOWEVER, I am no expert on this subject and I would wait to hear what someone with more knowledge on it says.  In the end though, I think it is all right, don't trust me though. ;)

EDIT: I didn't see your response Hyperion, we responded at the same time so you might know more about it than me, but it's my $0.02 though. :)

I actually planned on blurring the license plates, but there really aren't people in too many of the photos.

i don't know the legal ins & outs of this. If I had to get written permission to post every photo I take I would give up the hobby right now. The way I see it, if the cars are on display they're there for you to enjoy & take photos of. I've never met an owner yet who objected to me taking a photo of his aircraft at an air show or anywhere else. Some have happily posed for me beside their pride & joy. Not one of them asked what I wanted the photos for.

Yeah, I thought about that.  No one ever complained about me taking photos-most of the owners liked it (especially since they knew I was a owner and was impressed by their stuff).

I often take a photo of the pretty young ladies sat opposite to me in the 'bus...!

I don't know if it infringes their copyright, but it's always worth a slap in the face... ;)... ;D...!

Well, I've started to add the better photos I took over last summer to my page.  If you want to take a look, there's a link in my signature.  But, right now I only have one folder in there.  I'm going to add another big one soon though.

Being a professional photographer I can safely say candids and all other photographs of that nature are perfectly legal unless otherwise noted.
