I always suspected that was to find out if you were really ill or just faking it. If you drank the Bovril you were too ill to notice.

I've just had a brainwave.
Ozzy should substitute his marmalade with Marmite with immediate effect. As from now if not sooner. That would make a really terrifying weapon.

Well, terrifying for 50% of the population anyway. The other 50& couldn't get enough of the stuff.

i am the only american that i have met who likes the stuff. i have a jar of it in my frige

my parents think the only reason i liked it was because i had a british nanny from the ages of 1-5 who loved the stuff (and introduced me to it at a young age)

That seems to be the usual route. Start 'em off when they're babes-in-arms & they're hooked for life. I suspect it's a plot by the manufacturers. How else would they sell the stuff?

Marmite is okay, but I really love Vegemite (Australias answer to Marmite). Alas I finished the last of it today

Ive heard that Vegimite is good, a freind of mine tried it once. Never heard of Marmite, but the decription a few pages back almost made me vomit. I dont like the thought of eating dead microbes and their excrement. Allthough I eat fungus (mushrooms), so why not.

For the more modern person who won't eat marmite, have you tried these? There isn't too much difference.
I expect the are made by the same manaufacturers. Perhaps our American friends have had these?

Oh Paul said about marmite's cousin - Bovril - a wee while back. I would advise one doesn't stick the knife in here and lick the end. We used to use it when the dear old marmite fell dry (which was after several months. Those wee bottles last for ever!)

If Doug thought feeding children Marmite was mean enough, see them eat Bovril. I never enjoyed it as a substitute.  :-/
Good for colds as Paul said with Pepper, but boy the smell.  :o

Notice the shape of the jar - no other manufacturer uses this type it seems. Seems like the Marmite/Bovril club are left to enjoy their unique jars!

....Talking of OXO...towards the end of WW2 when sweets (candy in the US?) were rationed one of our substitutes was to eat an OXO cube....we would pick off tiny bits and try to make it last as long as possible...Ah those halcyon days...commoner  ;D

Personally, I dread to think what they put in that stuff. In fact, I'd rather not think about it.

PS. I wonder if anyone that works in the Marmite factory eats the stuff. I bet it pongs a bit around there.

All I can say is that the pay has to be good for you to work in a marmite factory.

I think they get machines to do it now.
