Carl.. The Going somewhere comment is probably related to, Shinzons plan, after the Romulans abandoned him and left him to die on Remus he had only one objective, and that was to destroy all life on earth. He was a Clone of Picard but because it wasnt perfect he was dying. He had the Remans build this ship to carry out his plan. After taking over the Romulan senate he set out with the Scimitar to Earth. He was so intent on getting to earth he was going to use the weapon on the Enterprise after it rammed the Scimitar and all its other weapons were destroyed. Its safe to say the Scimitar was by design one of the most powerful ships to ever feature in the Star trek history.

yes the Enterprise was severley out gunned, it did however proove itself capable on the defensive side. However after the Battle the Enterprise was given a complete refit, all shields and weapons were upgraded so it could handle the scimitar. However nothing can be done about the thealaron weapon. But as the writers have written it to take a long time to power up it can be stopped

Actually the enterprise took one hell of a pounding and kept going, look how long the new romulan warbirds lasted
