Boeing Sold

Postby The Ruptured Duck » Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:13 pm

Just learned that Boeing Wichita has been sold to Onix, a contractor that will be hired to build components for Boeing and other companies.

In case you didn't know, Boeing Wichita was origionally Stearman Aircraft here in Wichita, then was bought to build B-29's during WW2, along with Pt-17's and some components for other aircraft.  After the war, B.W. did work with B-47's, B-52's, and the entire line of commercial aircraft.  They also Do maininance for Air Force One, and did work on the Air Borne Laser.

So now, this company will still do work for Boeing, but will also work with Airbus, the air force, and some general aviation companies.  Hopefully, this will create new jobs for all the machinists that were laid off shortly after 9/11 from Cessna, Raytheon, Bombardier, and Boeing.

I will miss seeing the huge letters that spell out BOEING right of Oliver Rd.  A chapter in Wichita Aviation has closed.
