Well, my Mum told me that you have to eat a peck of dirt before you die. I expect I've eaten a lot worse than that in my time. What bothers me is not what they tell is in some of this stuff but what they sneak in there without telling us. :o

PS. I wonder how close I am to that peck? I forget what a peck is now anyway. ::) ;)

lol...Looks like a lot of dirt we eat then...here's a little list for comparison...

Measures of capacity :
In general :
2 gills = 1 cup
2 cups = 1 pint
2 pints = 1 quart
2 quarts = 1 pottle
2 pottles = 1 gallon
2 gallons = 1 peck
4 pecks = 1 bushel
3 bushels = 1 bag
12 bags = 1 chauldron or chaldron

While we're about it another thing interests me. From what I can make out this was all caused by a batch of Worcestershire sauce. Until this was publicised last week I was not aware of ever eating the stuff as I never fancied it. It appears that all the products on that list contain it so I must have consumed gallons, if not pecks, of the stuff without knowing it. This goes back to my original point. what they sneak in there without telling us.

Makes me wonder what else I've been eating all these years without ever realising it. ::)

PS. Did you see how much all this is going to cost?? I wonder who foots the bill for that lot?

Hey Doug, they do mention whats in these products. They just use scientific terms that you and i wouldnt understand. We had to cover this in Food tech at school once, and you'd be surprised at the stuff in our foods. For those who dont know, most products, and basically anything that contains gelatin(e)? basically contain ground up cows/sheep/pig hoofs and fish bones. Its what holds these things together. Nice ::)

Good Evening Mr Fozzer.
A nice cool salad sounds good right about now. It sure beats anything you can get pre-packaged in a shop. Even moreso now:) Add a nice helping of thousand island dressing on top and heaven. Just a shame its bloody 29*'s outside and threatening snow ::) :)

I know that Craig. They're experts at it. Hence the old saying at work: "It's all done to confuse the 'umble fitter". ???

For those who dont know, most products, and basically anything that contains gelatin(e)? basically contain ground up cows/sheep/pig hoofs and fish bones. Its what holds these things together. Nice

You don't know the half of it. If you knew what they put in this stuff you wouldn't eat it so it's best not to know. When my old Dad found out what they put in gelatine he gave up eating jelly for good. The wobbly stuff kids like at parties, not what Foz is raving about. I didn't like to enlighten him as to what other foodstuffs they use it for or he would have starved to death. ::)

Welcome back Paul. I've missed you. Good to know you've been out & about enjoying yourself. ;)

LOL i know what you mean Doug. As a side note, everything from toothpaste to chewing gum contains gelatine, its almost impossible not to come across it.
As for whats in it, i am sure if i went over my old GCSE notes i would soon remember. I tried very hard to forget everything from that class after i finished, as it made eating very difficult. ::)

...would I be right in thinking that gelatine, (cows hoofs), is used in the production of GLUE*...?

Paul.

*....probably why my dins sticks to my stomach, and prevents me from being hungry in between meals... ::)...!
