It occurs to me that there must be some reason they want to implement a system like this, maybe they have had serious problems and vandalism at this school. People need to realize that they bring these things on themselves, of course not all people need to be monitored, but it's always a couple of losers that ruin it for everyone.

"There is a way to make kids safer without making them feel like a piece of inventory," said Michael Cantrall, one of several angry parents who complained. "Are we trying to bring them up with respect and trust, or tell them that you can't trust anyone, you are always going to be monitored, and someone is always going to be watching you?"

There is always someone who says there is a better way, but they never seem to be able to tell us what it is, and whenever someone wants to try something new there is a huge opposition towards it.
You had better teach kids that you can't trust anyone because you can't until they prove themselves trustworthy.

Think about the way things are today, at least in the U.S., we have millions of illegals in this country, not to mention the terrorist threat, and everyone is saying we need to do something about it, but everytime the idea of a national ID card or any other idea that would identify everyone living in this country, or make it harder to enter the country in the first place, there is this big controversy, and it is the same with most every important issue that faces us in these modern times.

It is all politics, which I won't go into due to the rules of this forum, but there is always the one side that is actually trying to come up with ideas to fix the problems everyone says needs fixing, and there is the other side that shoots down every idea that is proposed but have no ideas of their own.

If they ever do that here, I will ride a bike.

I thought the same when I first heard about this & would do it if I thought it would help. I somehow have the feeling it won't stop there. The government is also proposing ID cards. Now I have no objection to that in principle but these will have a chip implanted in them containing various types of personal information including medical history, criminal records etc. They insist that this information will only be accessible to those authorised to use it. This doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. :-/ Who is to say that they couldn't include a miniature tracking device in these ID cards too. Do you think I'm getting paranoid? ::)

My biggest problem is, for every little thing like this that they want to implement, they use the excuse "national security" or "its to stop terrorists" and people have been so brainwashed ito believing this that these agenceys can get away with just about anything. Theres only so many times those excuses can be used before someone realises. And that goes for both the US and the UK.

I'm already ahead of you man. ;D

Here at Little Rock AFB, I have to ride on a bike to and from the clinic [were my job is at] for two good reasons:
1. I can't afford a car just yet.
2. It's good exercise, considering the uphill+upwind battle along the road to work plus the heavy rain. ;D ::)

That way, I can avoid speeding tickets. And I doubt anyone has ever broken the limit on a bike. :P

ID tags are perfect oppertunities for people to steal other's Identities or use such information for stalking.

Even though I'm no longer attending high school, I'm better off seeing hallway gaurds and cameras rather than tags that have very personal data.

I can't prove it but I'm sure this has happened here at least once.

There were a few cases where cameras were used to track Criminals.  The camera would take your picture and if your face matched the profile of a known fugitive, the Police would come to investigate.  They city was ordered to take those down as too many false positives.

In another city, a judge threw out running red light cases that were obtained by cameras.

About this, I find it odd that schools would be able to scrounge up the money for such a system...remember that schools in America don't have a great deal of money.
