American Idol

Postby Ben_M_K » Wed Feb 09, 2005 9:05 am

For thos of you who don't live in America, American Idol is a singing competion thats very popular.

Now, I'm POSITIVE I'm going to get flamed for this, but I actually like the show. Yep, you heard, I like AI. I know SO many people that think it's a joke and think I'm stupid for liking it. Sometimes it can be a joke. But I intend to watch for the reason it was made, to see good singers compete to get a record label and become one of the next big stars. Now I'm not saying I like Britney and Christina and Jesica or Ashley, I just like the show.

Curious to hear you're thoughts on why you think it's a joke or stupid. ;)

Another "great" British invention that's been sold around the world - several countries now have licenses for it... :)

Charlie...I know it was created in the UK. IT was called Pop Idol or something like that. I still wanted to make sure people knew what I was talking about.

Oh and thanks for you're input Craig... ::)

About time we got our revenge for all the junk shows we've imported from America in the past. :P :D

Sorry Ben, I don't know what the US version is like but I watched Pop Idol once & after 10 minutes decided it wasn't for me.

You're lucky Ben - You haven't been hit by the "X-Factor" yet... ;D

The benefit of "American Idol" is that there are for more Americans, hence far more people who think they can sing... :). Having said that, the first "Pop Idol" in the UK was actually quite good (I was a student at the time and had time to watch it...)

there's always time for Whose Line is it anyway.

Ryan stiles has been singing hoedowns for 16 years, both british & American, no wonder why he hates them ;D

PS, colin had some hair on the british version

There's only one show I make time for.
It's on early Saturday morning, just after midnight.
But I can't say it's name, for it's rated XXX.

I have nothing against what used to be called "talent shows" in principle. It's the typically contrived & cynical way these things are done nowadays. If a show run on the lines of "Opportunity Knocks" was brought back I would probably sit down & watch it. This show was responsible for some of the stars that later became household names. I'm sure there's plenty of real talent out there that never gets the chance of a wider audience. This is usually all they need for that lucky break.
