Childhood? Cookiemonster! Still dunno why, but every sundaynight I had nightmares about a big purple cookiemonster from sesame-street came thumping up the stairs for my room.

Nowadays? Heights! Getting worse and worse...

I'm scared of being scared

Right on target. Afraid of fear. The feeling of being frozen of fear. That would be my answer too.

I'm not afraid of death and never was. However, when I was young I was scared to death of snakes, it was appropriate to be scared of them where I lived (South Africa) because many people found Mambas in their houses very often. Now only a few things scare me; disfigurement, loosing my eyesight or hearing, current affairs (thank goodness I'm too old to be drafted!) and the eventual fate of the earth (no, not biblical destruction, the eventual destruction of the planet due to human lack of respect for it).

A fear of heights shouldn't affect your flying. I'm terrified of heights but still fly, parachute and go rock-climbing. Yup I'm mental ;D

Ps. Ben its only if I crash into your kitchen you have to worry, 'cos I'll consume the contents of the fridge ;D

Nope, it doesn't. It's only "low" heights I fear, like towers, cliffs, ... Flying at 30.000 ft doesn't affect me at all, i'll look out of the window without fear!

But flying passenger planes has another twist for me, there I am confronted with my " I am not in control and I don't know whats happeningnext" fear. I would be much more at ease sitting in the cockpit! And sudden altitude drops give me the creaps! On my last flight ( 737: Rome Fiumicino - Brussels) I had it again. Just after take-off the plane suddenly "dropped", at least that's what I felt, and some alarm was going off! Still don't know what that was ( probably the intercom...). But once flying level, my anxiety gets better, although I must not think to much about what can go wrong...

Somehow I still think beeing in a cockpit would make flying a more relaxing experience for me!

And than Ozzy says he's mental...   ;D

Im glad your fear of heights does not affect your flying, casue that would be terrible. Maybe when you fly as a pasenger you can sit  in the cockpit just like it was your birthday? hahahah it would be awesome

You know what scared the hell out of me when I was really young?, I used to live on a street adjacent to a golf course. I was absolutely convinced that aliens were going to use the course to land and abduct me. I can remember nights that I would hide under the bed for hours petrified. Or I would wake up from an alien nightmare in the middle of the night and head off to my parents bed. Nowadays not much frightens me. Even the notion of dying, as I get older, doesn't phase me. It's almost becoming a comforting thought. And by the way, there are no ugly women ATI 9700. There are only certain men that deem them that  way based on their own perceptions and egos. Beauty is subjective, and life, regardless of physical attribute, is beautiful. So is respect.....
