IRAQI ELECTIONS

With history being made this weekend in a country that is far away from all of us, I was wondering what we as a community feel.
Without getting political, what do you think. Here is my opinion.

It is far away from me.
I feel for the people who have been persecuted for years.
Imagine finally being able to be proud of your country.
The courage it takes to be willing to die for your belief.
The fear of the fragile person.
the strength of the human spirit,
the power of change.........

I feel for all involved.
Let us hope that this LONG ROAD to something ends in a story that all man-kind can be proud of!

Please, this is not a thread for political beliefs, just wondering what we all feel while we witness history.

God speed to all involved, the people, the children, the men, the women, the babies, the wives, the husbands, the soldiers and their families and all of us as a world striving for peace.

Freedom is the single most important gift we're given by our Creator.  I truly believe that anyone who truly understands what it is we're trying to offer the Iraqi people, including the Iraqi people themselves, will line up to import that freedom.

I understand how scared they must be, but I can also appreciate how excited they must be to be tasting just the earliest of bites of the good things to come.

Right you are Scott!! I am sure that Iraqi families will have these days imprinted in their minds forever. There are many who do not speak but I am sure they are bursting with hope for a better future!

Agreed too Duck. It is anarchy but without Anarchy, there is no change.
It actually is total chaos but the media paints a nice picture. I just had 2 friends of over 10 years return from a full tour over there. They are different people.

By speaking out or just making your name known is like painting a big red dot on your head that says "shoot here". Do you wonder how many Iraqi people who we are becoming familiar with today will be gone tomorrow because they believed in something. We sit here in front of our cozy PC's while the world is changing.

The media in the US is so  bad, I dont watch CNN, fox, or MSNBC.  Its just all a pickupfull of bullsh*t driven by a redneak off a cliff (wow, my best analogy ever!).

The redneack is a person who may appear to have "*****ship" skills, but its morals he lacks.  This is something that his opposing party has totally ignored.  Mr. Moore has only taken pot shots at him, not gone after his morals.

Only reason I say this is because at 5:30 am this morning, while the full Moon was shining through my skylight in my kitchen, I fired up my fireplace to warm me from the 16"now outside my door and I fed my 8 month old daughter. Normal morning for me.
The snow was falling and I sat in the dark watching CNN. It was one of those "special editions" that you catch every once in a while. It had intimate interviews with people just like you and me. People wanting nothing more than to live. Yes, i will say that these people are far away but for a brief minute this morning at 5:45 am in the dark feeding my daughter, I shed a tear for a few images of innocent youth interacting with the soldiers who hopefully one day will make this younger generation secure by protecting something they do not have yet.....

I'm still not 100% on the whole "democracy is freedom", "democracy is the right way" thing. And after what Bush said at his inaguration, I'm beginning to think the Iraq war was actually a good thing-Bush no longer has the military resources to show any other countries "the light". Cuba could invade us uncontested right now (I'm KIDDING of course, but you get the point-we're stretched thin here). Ayuway.

The elections are a good thing, but could quickly turn into a massacre. Let's all hope for the best

Wish I could say what I really think but that would be against the rules of this forum. In fact I was very surprised to see this topic posted here by a mod. It's almost impossible to comment without getting political. Let's just say that I think the whole thing is an illusion.

I see a long hard road ahead for this unfortunate country & its people. It will be many years, perhaps decades, before it returns to anything like a civilised society. That society might not be how we imagine it as the area has its own culture which is quite different to that in what we call the "civilised West". I suspect that until recently many people in the western world would be unable to pick Iraq out on a map, that's if they were aware of it or able to pronounce its name correctly. This is not the first time this country has suffered nor, I suspect, will it be the last. Much of this suffering has been caused by the interference of western powers following two World Wars. Just as in many other areas of conflict around the world the natural boundaries that had evolved over centuries & various conflicts were artificially changed to suit the political situation elsewhere with very little thought for the country or its people. It might help to look at the history of Iraq which was a highly civilised society long before many western countries existed. http://www.angelfire.com/nt/Gilgamesh/history.html In particular look at the recent history & the influence of my own country.
